Well besides entertaining and the all around good times on the server I was wondering...

Most servers plans are to grow and grow, and last i checked it has been. But minerealm, as limited as the map is doesn't seem to be able to support hundreds (200+) on at once. If minerealm does get to a point where there's hundreds of people on the server at once.. What would happen. Say it expanded to a larger server then you still have hundreds talking at once and chat is even more cluttered then now. Just wondering,
What do you guys think the future of minerealm is? Will it grow or stay a steady rate.

For the past two years or so I have been on the server, it has been pretty stable. I believe it will continue to stay that way.

It'll fluctuate from time to time. Whenever there's a big update (e.g. a public realm wipe, a bukkit update for a new MC version) we'll get a big influx of new players. Then, after it's been a long time since the last update, the population will start to drop again.

Minerealm has been stable for long enough, but its lack of monetisation means its difficult to pull in a huge ammount of players like other 'big' servers.

I think a lot of people are against the idea of 'custom tags' and 'kits' and all that, and don't get me wrong, I think its a bad way of going about things.

Specifically, I think buying things that can provide an in game advantage are VERY bad. There are plenty of things we could add properly without making this mistake. If Minerealm could afford more marketing and more server power for a larger map and more players...

For example, things we could consider which would not be too detrimental to gameplay would be:
  • Very basic custom tags for a $30 donation which would have only one set colour and a set length... As long as these weren't too eccentric it would be a big boost to the servers income.
  • Custom noises or particle effects for a significant donation. Vanilla server commands now have these functions and applying them to a tool which could be purchased for tokens or whatever wouldn't be too hard. Buying the smoke effect again would surely be appreciated by some as long as it doesn't cause too much lag!
  • Not a huge fan of this one.. but a (non-minrealm) friend just recommended the custom hats, you know when you put any block in your helmet slot?
  • and more, I'm sure we could think of more ways to monetise Minerealm without ruining our 'vanilla/legit' nature.
I would also be happy to make another advert, with the cooperation of the Minerealm Staff, and this time without copyrighted music which I could monetise and from which I would donate all proceeds directly to Minerealm. I would need a good amount of time for this however, as school has finally gotten serious for me in Australia.
