I originally thought you were just kidding around when you mentioned a mob limit for NPC's as the kid who posted that picture later said it wasn't in fact on Minerealm and in fact a creative server spawned with eggs. Today, as excited as I was, I logged in and found most our villagers gone. The few that were left aren't trading for emeralds. They'll take emeralds for junk but unless we can build up some kind of quantity the chances of being able to actually trade with them is slim to none. Also by their very behaviour, Villagers, they all clump together at night in a select few houses. Thus wiping most of them out every night with this script.

Sure I can completely change my entire town into a farm with pens and separate them in order to beat the limit as others do with animal farms but that can't be the best way?

Please reconsider this. It hasn't been hurting the server for the past few months. Thank you for your consideration.

Rather than removing the mob limit, I say raise the limit.
I prefer the limit to be at least 16 so you can group villagers and allow a golem to spawn.
I wouldn't mind if the limit was 50 as well. :P

Sorry. Forgot about the poll rule and I suggest we change it it to just raise the limit instead of eliminate it.

Apologies again. I didn't fully understand how trading with these things worked until just now. We have stacks and stacks and stacks of emeralds once we got it figured out. Eliminating the limit has absolutely nothing to do with them not trading.

Live and learn right?

We actually had around 300 villagers running around long before there was any rush for villagers and I don't think anyone noticed any lag due to this.

I say make a new suggestion with a poll to raise the limit, instead of remove it. I also think 5 is a bit low for villagers... there are five different types.. so that means you could get 1 of each kind... but still...

I would be much happier with like... even 8. My reasoning behind this is that villagers aren't like other mobs. You trade with them to produce new offers, so villagers that last longer can be more useful... they're not all the same, once you interact with them. As such, a lower despawn is a bit harmful, since you can't just spawn another with the exact same trades. I also really don't want to keep them in pins.. I enjoy their AI. It makes areas seem more lively.

To say all the massed villagers wouldn't cause server lag doesn't make sense. Just because we can't see its affect doesn't mean it isn't present.

I'm glad there is a mob limit and the workaround is simple: 5 limit villager holding areas. Just breed them until there are 5 and then separate them from the another group of 5.
