Post any ideas / suggestions for the game servers here.

I don't mean to infringe on the great minds of MineRealm, but I would like to post a set of guidelines that players should at LEAST consider before posting their idea thread.

Some of the ideas here aren't ideas at all. Others are requests for mods that have already been created, and others still are legitimate, impressive ideas. Whatever the case may be, I would first like to identify a few different kinds of ideas.

Problem Solvers: These are the most widely accepted ideas out there. They provide a logical solution / suggestion to a problem on the server. An example of this would be the idea thread requesting to remove Slimes, in which the OP pointed out that glitches in-game are making them unkillable and thus, interfering with gameplay. Guess what? Slimes got removed without question.

Entertainers: These are ideas that may include some controversy, but are for the most part just a fun addition to the server. The problems that arise with these ideas are that they are too complicated / require admins to do some work themselves. This is the number one killer of ideas. Examples of successful Entertainers are Realm Wars and the Sand Beast.

Tossed Out There's (TOT's): These are ideas that are, by their name, just tossed out there. They don't have much of a driving force behind them, but also may not require one. They may simply be there to get the idea in players' heads. These are harmless, but also rarely get implemented. Examples are the "What you want to see in the release notes" thread.

Overhauls: These are ideas that, well, not a single one has ever been passed by Congress *AHEM* I mean Intelli. These ideas request something either so server-changing that the dynamic of it is altered, or requires so much programming that Intelli wouldn't even bother. These are failure threads. These are not to be confused with Un-Manned Overhauls.

Un-Manned Overhauls: These are the successful Californian cousin of Overhaul ideas. They request a large idea, but at the same time, are designed by the OP that they can take care of themselves / have someone taking responsibility and management of the idea rather than forcing it on Intelli / the admins. Examples of these are Realm Wars and Bounty Hunting (although bounty hunting is a very small Overhaul).

Regarding Tags
You may notice [IMPLEMENTED], [APPROVED], and [REJECTED] tags beside titles. Do NOT manually place these in your title. Additionally, do not edit them out. These are placed by admins. Breaking this rule will result in a forum ban.

[IMPLEMENTED] = This idea has (already, or just was) implemented in game.
[APPROVED] = This idea has been accepted, and will be implemented shortly.
[REJECTED] = This idea will not be implemented.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a few things I would like players to consider before posting:

1. Consider how Beneficial the idea is to MineRealm. By beneficial, I don't mean "Ohh man this would be soooo cool for everyone!" I mean beneficial in a logical sense. Does the idea solve a common problem, such as lag issues, etc? If not, does it provide something that can be fun for everyone and doesn't harm anyone, such as Spleef?
2. Take a step back, analyze how complicated you are making things. Do you have an interweb of ideas within the idea like your post is Inception in text format? Is your idea anything besides Realm Wars? If this is true, it's probably destined to fail. I say this because within that cluster of words you call an idea rests something, even 1 itsy-bitsy thing that requires work on the admins' parts. And that is what makes it fail.
3. Understand that asking for Chat Commands and Warp Commands are not "quick and easy". Hopefully you've seen my post. There have been over 70 chat commands, 20 warp commands, and 30 Overhaul plugin requests since the server began. Less than 5 chat commands, no warps, and 1 Overhaul ever have been successful. Why? Because Intelli knows this statistic just as well as I do. If he listened to every single chat command request, no matter how "quick, easy, and important" you make it sound, it is very likely destined for failure.
4. Fairly state the pros and cons of the idea, if it is a controversial one. Realm Wars, the example I keep coming back to. It has many negatives, among them being that some players don't what to get involved with it, but find themselves involved any way. But to balance this out are many positives for those that do enjoy it. The point is that the pros and cons of the idea must both be highlighted. If you make your idea sound like it is the equivalent of singing Don't Stop Believing with Jesus, then we know something is up, and you subconsciously force the readers to find flaws. This is why it is safer and more beneficial, even in regular arguments, to state the cons to the idea as well. That way your readers don't go looking for them.
5. Understand that Intelli is not a big fan of listening to your ideas. Simple fact. You see how many idea threads there are? Yeah. You see how many have ever been implemented? ... Yeah.
6. Asking for a Pre-Existing modifcation to Minecraft is a bad idea. Ask Intelli how much of the plugins on the server he has programmed. The correct answer is 110%. Either it is his ambitious mindset telling him to only accept his own creations or his logical analysis, but neither he nor most of the community want to add your favorite mod, be it Craftbook, Mo'Creations, Herobrine, ChestLock, etc. I don't want to discourage you from posting the idea though, as I can very easily be proven wrong on this IF you suggest a good modification and provide the proper reasoning for it.
7. Sacrifice energy if your idea requires it. Have you ever even read the Realm Wars threads? Do you see how complicated it gets? Yeah, makes you wonder how it got passed doesn't it? Well, want to know how much work Intelli and the other admins have to dedicate to it? 0. Nothing. I hate to pat myself on the back, but I take care of absolutely everything with Realm Wars and very rarely ask for outside assistance with it. And when I do I promptly apologize :P. It's your idea: don't just toss it out there and hope some super ambitious player takes it up. Run with it and show commitment, that is key to having both your idea passed and being a great person.
8. Any idea that requires Intelli or the admins to put work into it will ultimately fail. I think I've mentioned this 5 times. In most cases, anything that requires the work of someone else is destined for failure, unless you make the case VERY strong. I don't want to discourage you from posting ideas by saying this, but if you do, don't give a tone such that you are pretty much forcing the admins to do all the work for it.
9. If it alters the gameplay of players, or tries to, it has a good chance to fail. I'll be honest, I've wanted a market center or bazaar since I've started playing Minecraft. Unfortuantely, it is very unlikely. The closest we can get to it is the IP Exchange, and that is great all in itself, but still, it took a great amount of work to get it to work. Many players in the past have suggested a currency, such as Coal, Gold, Redstone, etc. This sounds okay, until they mention that it is a forced currency. What is this, capitalism? I will spare you the details of why a forced currency will fail. But if you egg me on about it, expect the rant about it :P. In addition, I would like to point out that the IP Exchange is not a forced currency where all players must do this when trading; it is a market that points out what it wants, and what it will give you. Nothing forced, it's all up to you whether you participate.

Sorry for this wall of text, but I just thought it was important for players to keep in mind.

Also, please don't let this discourage you from writing idea threads. I LOVE reading them. All of them. Just make them original, make the ingenuitive. I can't wait to see what the great players here can conjure up :)
