#2155
I was encouraged to talk this discussion/argument/complain/suggestion to the forum so here it is. To put it in short, I have a brief bit of context to add to my suggestion and the suggestion itself.
Lower the requirement of # of needed members for making a realm private. I have a few points to add to this suggestion, and the story behind it:
My friend made a realm which I joined and we messed around and had a bit of fun on it. We knew about the member requirement of 5 and we sought to get 5 members as quickly as we could because we wanted to be anti-griefable. Eventually we got around 6 members. I didn't really like the concept of 5 but we dealt with it.
So last night we have 6 members, everything looks nice.. I go to bed without thinking anything of it. I wake up tomorrow and half the town is griefed? What happened? Looks like we had 2 members leave while I was asleep. The server gives a nice BIIIIG announcement letting everyone know we are now PUBLIC and someone who gets a hard-on destroying hours of other peoples effort and hard work pulls up the handy-dandy map and finds our now-vulnerable realm and proceeds to go wreck a bunch of stuff and steal everything of value out in the open(which fortunately wasnt anything truly of value because we hide that stuff).
Did anything occur that couldn't happen to anyone? No of course not.. But it was rather out of our control. We were both sleeping, and not much we can do if people leave when you arent at your computer and your stuff gets griefed while your gone.
My points:
Why does this server make griefing a bannable offense, and something we don't support, while also adding limits to the tools we have that prevent it from ever happening? I can understand a point that was made about adding the limit so in fact a griefer wouldnt get his m8's and surround spawn with single-person private realms. I get that, but I also have a hard time believing there wouldnt be simple measures that could be taken to prevent abbuse of it. Expand the non-build area around spawn? Put a limit on how close to spawn you must be? Just one suggestions.
Second, why do we make it so easy for them? Not only do we have a nice big map showing them where your realm is(Which by itself is fine I love maps), give them nice server anouncements of when your vulnerable and commands they can type to see who is public and who is not. May as well be painting a big bullseye I feel. Ultimately you will end up with just a few large realms where no one has to worry about that sort of thing happening, and few scattered people who travel to the very corners of the map to be alone. Maybe thats the idea? I dunno.
In conclusion, I'm not asking that we move the limit to 1, but I also think 5 is too high. 2-3 Would be my own suggestion but maybe someone would prefer 4. In either case, that is my rant/suggestion/whatever concluded, thank you for your time.
