Hello! I'm new to the server, but have been involved with MineCraft since the early days of Alpha. I'm pretty well established in overall community and have been both a Mod as well as an Admin on two of the old servers I used to play on.

Forum Thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/332 ... downloads/

My suggestion is for an addon called "LWC" which can be found here:

http://*.com/3dachqc

This addon allows you to lock doors, chests, furnaces, and a few other items. (All of which is customizable). The addon is clean, leaves a very small footprint and does not hog resources. It's also extremely easy to use.

Why, you might ask would we want a locking addon when we have Realms for locking down "territory"? The answer is as follows:

As a realm owner, and someone who loves gathering people together to complete large tasks, I cannot possibly readily invite new players who might be interested in joining my city. Even those who seem mature, friendly, and kind could be absolute thieves! There is no litmus test for this. There is no way of knowing who is, or who is not going to steal other peoples items. As a Realm owner, I also run the risk of harming my own friends who could also have their belonging stolen.

Arguably, one of the most entertaining/rewarding things about playing on a Multi-player server is getting a group together, and taking on big projects. Without some way of protecting that which we have earned, the process of finding new players to join our realms is simply too flawed to reasonably consider.

When you allow players to lock their belongings, you give them a sense of security which would keep more of your players, for a longer amount of time. This in turn could produce more donations.

Locking chests = less stealing = less of a hassle for mods and admins. They can focus on more important things other than "so and so took my diamonds!!!".

I don't even remember the last time I played on a server without some kind of locking addon. I would suggest LWC given it is by and far the most popular, most supported, and easiest to use addon.

I appreciate the time you took to read this, thank you. Hopefully, we can move forward and all of us can have some peace of mind regarding theft and trust.

Thanks for your reply! Care to give any insight into your response? How did it fail?

Appreciate it!

I'm assuming you mean this:

Chest-Locking

What it Entails: This idea calls for the ability for players to lock their chests, a.k.a. prevent others from accessing, looking through, and/or removing items from said chest.
The Benefits: The items are totally secure. Any accounts of theft can be totally ignored, as the players should be locking their chests. Many players enjoy the thought of total security.

The Downsides: The items are totally secure. This makes players require no responsibility in order to protect their belongings. It essentially endorses irresponsibility, as chests then require no effort to be protected.

Conclusion: It will ultimately fail. MineRealm never endorses the irresponsibility that this idea proposes. Players should always be in close control of their belongings and shouldn't require a plugin to do it for them.

I find that to be incredibly unfortunate, and if I may be frank... completely unfounded. Couldn't any addon be found to be an "endorsement of irresponsibility"? Why have realms? Obviously, players should be responsible for posting signs and drawing lines to establish their own territory, otherwise they are being irresponsible and therefor adding the "Realms" addon is an endorsement of player irresponsibility. Do you see how flawed this logic is?

Why is it MY responsibility to control the actions of a thief? How does this make any sense? Blaming the victim for being victimized? Even the most well hidden chests can be found with or without xray applications.

Also, I'm an advocate for democracy. Do you allow your players to take votes on any of these things? Just curious.

Hehe. I'm not sure about all that, though I am shocked by the lack of a locking plugin, especially after seeing griefers proudly showcasing their exploits of the Realm addon locking mechanism in this video:

I'd say, a locking addon isn't just "nice to have" but almost a fundamental of any server.

There is a locking system, it is in the realm plugin. If a chest is in a private realm only players that are allowed to build in the realm have access to the chests. If you want a chest that only you can access put it in a realm that only you can build in.

If any add-on such as the one you describe were to be added, then it will be made by Intelli himself.

Intelli has made most of the modifications on this server as I believe.

It helps him and us, because if there is a bug he can fix it right away. That is if he uses someone else is plug in then he might not know how to fix a bug or problem that is happening.

Ahhhhh! That explains it! I get it now!

Even though he might not (for whatever reason) be "interested" in creating a locking addon, he might consider an addon that is old, established, well-supported, and not so buggy. Some wheels just don't need re-inventing. :P

But, this explains everything, thanks! I don't think it has anything to do with logical reasoning!!
