So I was thinking it would be nice to get to you wilderness base faster. But there's a hard part, lack of food and distance to you base makes it very difficult. So I was thinking increase only the nether border where. The wild is. Also in 1.5 there is a new ore being added into the nether. So we could wait till then and heave the new ore coming into play aswell. So let's break it down
Pros
Faster way into your wild base.
Easier transportation
Depending when/if accepted the new nether ore will be added in
Fresh nether forts and other nether stuff

Cons
If there's a nether portal in your base someone can easily find it.

If this is implemented, there'd have to be a nether "wilderness" border as well, so you can't really bring items in. However, the idea of the new nether ore is pretty interesting.

^For this reason, the suggestion seems problematic. Not that it's a bad idea (especially with upcoming nether ores), but it would be tough to implement.

Yeah, you could probable implement it like the wilderness borders now, it wount allow you to take items into it. Since its already been done once, they can probably use the same code. And intelleh LOVES coding right?! Well maybeh not

I voted wait for 1.5 so the ores can be implemented. This is a pretty good idea, except it would be difficult gathering tools if you couldn't bring anything into the nether.

Between the redstone and rail system updates, and the addition of nether ores, I'm seeing quite a bit of new material inspired by Tekkit mods.

If new nether ore gets added, just wipe the nether. It's a mess anyway.
