I wish I could tell you that this will be one of my short posts, but I would be lying through my teeth. The purpose of this thread is my attempt to thoroughly explain the pros and cons of many common ideas and why they probably won't happen / are destined to fail.

Please understand that should the case be that you have proposed one of the below ideas before, I am not attempting to personal attack you or your dreams. These ideas have all been brought up multiple times.
Chest-Locking
What it Entails: This idea calls for the ability for players to lock their chests, a.k.a. prevent others from accessing, looking through, and/or removing items from said chest.
The Benefits: The items are totally secure. Any accounts of theft can be totally ignored, as the players should be locking their chests. Many players enjoy the thought of total security.
The Downsides: The items are totally secure. This makes players require no responsibility in order to protect their belongings. It essentially endorses irresponsibility, as chests then require no effort to be protected.
Conclusion: It will ultimately fail. MineRealm never endorses the irresponsibility that this idea proposes. Players should always be in close control of their belongings and shouldn't require a plugin to do it for them.
In-Game Currency
What it Entails: Players are required to use a decided upon item as a currency for all exchanges.
The Benefits: It would create an "economy" that some players look forward to. The single currency would allow all players to be able to engage in trade.
The Downsides: It would create an "economy" that forces players to adhere to a currency that they may have no interest in. Forcing players to use a single currency is obnoxious for everybody, and there are simply not many benefits. I will spare you my economy rant on this one.
Conclusion: It will ultimately fail. MineRealm endorses the concept of free trade. Players themselves are mature and old enough to decide what is valuable and shouldn't require a rate to tell them so.
Official Trading
What it Entails: A trade window, official plugin, or other means of conducting official, protected trade.
The Benefits: Trades are 100% secure and many will feel safer in conducting trade with other players.
The Downsides: It requires a large amount of time to code. Also, referring back to the maturity concept: players shouldn't need something to protect their trades for them. They should be in control of how the trade is conducted.
Conclusion: It will ultimately fail.
Multiple Realms
What it Entails: Allowing realm leaders, once their realms reach a certain size, to create a second realm, a "colony", allow "VIP's", etc etc.
The Benefits: Large realms reap the benefits of being able to expand at an even greater rate. They may enjoy the idea of colonies and outreaches of their realms.
The Downsides: Obnoxious to code, and eventually, enough colony realms may become unwieldly. It will also add to the already massive list of realms we have.
Conclusion: It will ultimately fail. The goal of realms, in my opinion, is to provide a single cohesive unit for a group of players to work together in, not to expand like crazy and litter the map with even more realms.
Flymod / Speedmod
What it Entails: Respectively: The ability to fly and disobey gravity, and the ability to move at a much faster rate.
The Benefits: Both provide players with more mobility to navigate the map in a quicker and more exciting manner.
The Downsides: To state the obvious: The server is programmed to kick for fast movement and flying. This should give you a good indicator that MineRealm is not very keen on having Flymods or Speedmods. Additionally, having either would ruin the legitimacy of the server and would make griefing and being obnoxious much easier.
Conclusion: It will ultimately fail for the reasons stated above.
Whitelisting
What it Entails: Before players can join, they must apply to the server through some sort of form.
The Benefits: Whitelisting will filter out many griefers and other unwanted players. It would give our server a feel of exclusiveness.
The Downsides: We will be losing many, MANY opportunities for great players to join. If this server were Whitelisted, I would have never joined it, nor would have Twisted. Although we lose many griefers and other idiots, keep in mind we are also losing great players that just don't want to go through the trouble of a whitelist. Additionally, dedicated griefers can put on a good show on their Whitelist application and show up and grief anyway. Also, the feeling of exclusiveness given by a Whitelist is disliked by many players, as they would rather not have that feel.
Conclusion: It will ultimately fail for the reasons stated above.

I will be adding more as they are proposed.

I guess I'll just... sticky it myself then? :P
Good! Making this was a great idea! Panthers, if you don't become an admin soon I would be amazed. You are one of the hardest working mods around. You are on more than anyother mod (except for maybe Rokkerwolf(?)) and give great, rational explinations to peoples' questions and concens. INTELLI! Make him an admin!

I'm happy to see that I've only been interested in seeing one of these ideas succeed. Well, I liked the multi-realm thing too, but switched to VIP after actually listening to some feedback, which people don't seem to think I do. Only when it's pertinent to the idea. But yeah good job Panthers, very thorough.

Didn't you just make a thread saying that you are thankful of mods/admins and think it's selfish for people to make pointless demands for unnecessary addons for stupid reasons? At least try to keep your lies straight for 8 hours.
That, and we already had an entire thread explaining why that's a stupid idea. You should remember, you had like 7 useless posts in it.
