I was just having a quick scan through some of the ban appeals, ( I like to read the excuses some people have for griefing etc) back on point, I think that players who make a ban appeal, who cannot make the title in the proper format, (ban appeal: <name>) should have an extension added to their ban. The rules for each individual forum section are stated at the top of each section these people obviously don't read them or choose to ignore them when it could be most important, so what other rules may they not be reading or ignoring

Some people haven't been here for a while and don't understand it all. And sometimes when they make one like you say, staff asks them to make a new and better one so it is extended

Lardimus, I can see where you are coming from, but I think the amount of time it takes staff to read the ban appeal, let alone answer whether a player is unbanned or not is extension enough.

I like the idea of cracking down on improper formatting, but since all bans are by default permanent (and can only be shortened by a subsequent decision from staff), the idea of "extending" a ban doesn't seem to have much meaning. Perhaps there could be a policy of automatically rejecting improperly formatted (or otherwise very poorly written) appeals, without commenting that the player should read the format thread or write a new appeal. If a player can't be bothered to read the instructions, we don't really need them here.

Incorrect formatting means it is more effort for staff to figure out the appeal. More effort means we are less likely to want to do it. This makes it take longer for us to get around to reviewing the appeal, which makes it take longer until the person is unbanned. So practically speaking, this is already done.
