I would love to help make a rail system! Especially if there is redstone wiring involved as I am quite good at redstone wiring for stations.

As a solution to collisions, a 3 wide, 2 high tunnel with torches in the middle would work. (two tracks)

For destination selection I suggest a grand central station under spawn I know of a compact destination selector (blueprints on the minecraft forums) and I have come up with an automatic lockout system for preventing people from switching a destination before the person is through the switching yard. It could also be used for closing the station for maintenance.

I also have a very different taste in designing buildings than most people do.

Please consider these options. (I can define these in further detail or even demonstrate them if asked.)

yes but im talking extremely high up, like the limit. that way unless they were specifically looking for it they couldn't find it

Yes, because a monorail system stretching through the sky is going to be completely unnoticeable. I'd say about as much so as the spawn airship.

i heard frog road is planned to have cart tracks on it, perhaps that could be integrated somehow?

This is an interesting idea. I support it, and will donate materials. I like the ideas about locations of stations, in big cities which would donate. Each player supplying their own minecart seems like the only plausible way to handle that. I don't think that running through private realms is that big of an issue.

This would probably help businesses and encourage new players to not walk as far to get to land for a base.

The sad thing about this railway system is it would take away the adventures of the new players here to find public land on there own, even if that means walking three thousand blocks from spawn. It just wouldn't be as fun to me to just jump on a railway to get somewhere that is suppose to be a challenge.

I am not trying to say this is a bad idea, but just saying it has that one major issue of taking away the adventure feel of walking. I do agree that this railway should be made and will donate items and time towards this project, but will also be sad about saying goodbye to the feel of walking to new areas as to riding a minecart to these realms that are far away.

I think the purpose of the rail is to provide transport to big cities for the more veteran players. New players won't even have a minecart and would have to beg for one for an entire day before being able to use it to get to public land.
