Grow up.
Normally I wouldn't expect anyone to do that, but when he quotes the two posts from different threads and aims them as a shot at me, I would expect him to check the timestamps to make sure he isn't about to make a fool of himself.

Sorry, it wasn't meant as a shot at you. I was just trying to answer your question.

There is only one reason to not want clearly defined rules - so you can continue breaking the existing rules.

THB, I would prefer the nether to be a complete free-for-all (barring exploits/hacks). Unfortunately, people who engage in portal camping are the same people that use the re-log/invulnerability exploit and Xray/speed hacks to boost their pvp ranking.

I have no problem with any combat that rewards cleverness, better equipment, or just more skill. My problem is with the people that feel the need to exploit every dirty trick in the book because it is the only way they can feel superior. Grow up.

The sad fact is that without a clear set of rules and the programming to back them up, these shitbags will continue to exploit every loophole they can find.

ramien123 wrote:Why is that?

Here is why.

I remember the start of the server, when we first realized that we had gotten access to the Nether and were allowed to PvP there. It was supposed to be a glorious, primal, brutal good time. There were no rules, there was none of this "unarmed" bullshit, there were no damn roads that gave people the sense that they were "entitled" to safely prance through the Nether with all their stacks of diamonds and wheat and iron. I also remember that if someone had been idiotic enough to build, of all things, a freaking SHOP in the Nether it would have been A.) Torn to Pieces, or B.) Instantly Robbed and Lava'd. Portal Camping? Ha, that was a fact of life. If an enemy found your portal and were willing to wait there tough, you were in for it. You needed to move and make a new portal far enough away to ambush them. Hell, I CLEARLY remember being portal camped by all the members of Larryland before their bannings. And you know what? I didn't complain. Nobody would have even though of complaining. You know why? There was no concept of order or civility in the nether, it was Hell for Heavens sake!!! You're already damned by being there, might as well have fun with it. And you know what? We did. We ALL did. The "noobiest" of "noob" to the oldest of players loved running into the Nether to mine glowstone or Netherack, and if they got killed doing so they yelled a bit but they didn't make a huge fuss over it that caused SERVER-WIDE FACTION DIVIDES.

One thing that changed was, ironically, the Glowstone. Once it was gone, the Nether was literally useless except for fast travel. This led to the Nether being empty, and people started using it like a highway to more or less get where they were going with little to no hassle. Once forts began going up, griefing was declared illegal in the Nether. Then came me doing something stupid which caused a whole bunch of unclear rules to pop up. Then I did something ELSE stupid and split the server into clearly divided factions with my idiotic rhetoric to make Terra Nova and it's leaders seem good and for the community to forget what they had done in the past, even though all it and they did was usurp a leader of his realm and humiliate him, and make tons of empty promises that they never intended to keep. This made all the tensions ready to snap and, when the road was finished, the first person thought "i can build a store in the Nether" did so and was inevitably killed by someone who was thinking in the old mindset, well, everything just happened. The polarization, the anger...

I have to say people, I'm not having as much fun on Minerealm anymore. All these tensions, hatred, and veteran players frantically trying to get others banned for things that would have normally been laughed off or mildly scolded are dominating the chat and forums. People who were friends are throwing barbs at each other without a second thought, and it's all because of the damn Nether and it's new rules. I am to blame for some of it, yes, but really the Nether is just being used as a "banning grounds" and not a battleground anymore.

My opinion, either kill the Nether rules and restore the fun and lawless wasteland that we all knew and loved, or kill the Nether. The only other solutions I see are to just disable pvp in the nether altogether, save everyone some time, or enforce a rigid code of laws that will make the Nether a bland, hellish sort of Overworld.

But, I don't really care. I rarely go in the nether anymore, there is nothing to do there that I can't do in the Overworld. Except Pvp, and that just causes 14 minute rages in the chat.

That's it, I'm done. Ceteri has no opinion on this, this is just me.
Lol, When someone went into the nether I immediately killed them... There was no rule on portal camping.. And it was more fun that way. :P

AMEN. When did portal camping arise as a problem? I'd be interested to know.

Just recently. Around the same time that a number of players had the brilliant idea to bring a bunch of valuable materials to the Nether and set up a shop. Coincidence? You decide.

No coincidence, I've watched this from Hour 1. The whole "shop" idea was originally just a ploy by several of us (me included) to lure more people into the nether for pvp. Somehow people started taking it seriously, and it grew into the faction wars we're seeing now.

With roving gangs of diamond-sword-weilding tin-cans now patrolling all day, I'm pretty sure we got more than we wanted.

Thanks for that explanation. I thought the people setting up shop sincerely thought the Nether was a good place to do business... if you were just trying to get more people to come there, that makes a lot more sense.

You certainly read the post I made after that explaining my reasoning! You can tell because the underlined portions are either aimed at me, or exactly what I said in my follow up post!

There were a few people that wanted to make a real shop in the nether. We showed up to help promote the shops (which would get more peoples attention) and to kill those that showed up to kill us.

Then every one got rule/ban happy and killed the fun.
