Well then, you've come to the right thread! That's exactly what's being proposed here. Hopefully, with enough support, Intelli will make our ideal a reality.

Holy thread necromancy, Batman!

But really, thanks for bumping it; it's a good idea which deserves at least some consideration now that the "chocolate" complaint is obsolete due to the official poll you mentioned. The only problem I would have with any kind of automated shop system is whether it could be used to spawn items; if I'm understanding this correctly, though, that wouldn't happen with what's being proposed. +1 support.

Attempting to buy things from most stores is rather hellish. Even at the biggest store, Nova, it is hard to get a hold of someone who works there, and foxtops is currently gone.

Lol @ how old this thread is.

Novastore was still Novastore, and Foxtops had only just shut down.

Anyways, I still think a plugin for player-maintained/stocked stores would be nice.

Would you care to explain why? As far as I can tell, it would have a purely positive effect on the server.
1. There are quite a few ways to loophole the system.
2. It would make trade pretty much useless, except for selling picks.
3. We want to go with a vanilla server concept, which means no spawning items. *Yes, even if they are dug up first*
4. As before, there are many ways to loophole the system, which would allow greifers much more free reign over the server.

I did play on a server once where there was a system just how i liked it. However, you could just drop the items outside the chest, rather than into your inventory and bypass paying.... this could pretty easily be fixed by Intelli I think, and its not hard to stop people buying from their own chests.

1. What are some of these "quite a few" loopholes and what damage would they do?
2. Not really. /trade could still be used for the merchant to bring the items to the buyer (which is more convenient for the buyer, who would otherwise have to travel to the merchant's realm). Also, /trade could be used by merchants to undercut the prices of larger automated stores.
3. No, we're not. If you're concerned about being legit (different than "vanilla"), which would prohibit the spawning of items, this really isn't a problem. Items would have to be removed from the game in order to give them to the store prior to being bought; it would have no more effect on the number of items within the server than the existing manual trade system, but it would be more convenient.
4. Again, what are some of these "many" loopholes, and what problems would they actually cause?

Yes, your understanding is absolutely correct. All items in such a system would be strictly player-stocked. Thanks a ton for the support, too. I'm really glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Minerealm could use something like this.

Glad to know your opinion hasn't changed as much as the server has since then. I also think this thread may have been my first post, looking back at some dates and memories. It's quite old, indeed.

To chocolaty. I love the system of players trading themselves, and signs are just blah... They feel fake, or whatever. Yes, it's easier, but I think the current system is better overall.

I support this idea, it stimulates the economy and would add function to people's builds. There will always be a need for trade as people sell between others, but this idea of a player shop, albeit one which requires stock, sounds rather good and would help attract people to secondary spawn sites around the map.
This would also be essential to make the underground system more effective as you can buy for example a minecart.

Even if that "chocolate" argument was still valid, I fail to see how players teleporting to each other could be considered more "vanilla" than physically travelling to a shop to buy something. Plus, this doesn't replace the current system. It just adds a new, convenient way of trading to the game. I urge you to reconsider the hugely positive impact this could have on our server.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I actually hadn't considered how this could also benefit the subway. Station owners being able to sell minecarts right at the track would be sure to give it some more use.
