I am aghast that people are so negative towards something that could possibly eliminate Joe Blow User on the server who simply wants say "y cant I dig hurrrr" and then never log on again. Or at least raise their IQ a couple points by telling them the rules.

I was thinking of a similar idea, but not with a maze, more like a trail of signs with the rules, and the trail of signs leads them out to the beginnings of some public areas. the cookie crumbs will lead them away from spawn and give them the rules at the same time.

I had similar thought, this will help news.
Btw, the rules system ITSELF is... a maze ;) Would be nice if wouldn't need a lawyer to be sure is given thing is good or bad. (one thing good on typical PvP serwers: there are 2 rules: 1. don't fly/mod 2. don't xray - and that is ALL you need to know :)

That's why I proposed partial-protection (e.g. in nether) - you can try to grief, but it will be very slow and boring, especially in private realms - so if you spent ANY time on basic protection like brick/stone wall + metal/stone around chest (and hide it), any grief will have hard time. It motivates to build real stronghold for practical purpose, and make cool chests hiding spots.

And there is no gray area, you either are evil (xray/fly) or you are good and you don't.

This is how all law should be, example: you smoke *flowers*¹ or drink a bit *vitamins* but you just do it alone at home or with friends - you are good;
you beat up someone - then no are matter being *glowstoned* or just evil - you are bad person.
(¹) PG forum you say? ;)

But this last paragraph is a off-topic :)

Back to MC.
Simple law is good law.
Law that people are understanding more is also good,
so +1 to rules maze.

I say yes as long as the maze is fairly short. If it's too long, it might frustrate new players who have the potential to be really good members of the community (since such people would probably consider most of the rules to be obvious). We wouldn't want any good players to ragequit on us right after joining, but a short maze would help sort out the newbies who would otherwise spam silly questions.

This is just a better way of doing Lightbulbs idea for owned spawn. Anyone remember his BEAUTIFULLY drawn out maze surrounding Spawn building. haha

A maze style spawn turns off many new players. I want to have an opportunity to meet all new players, not scare them off. More fun for the informational entity ^_^

Such a simple idea and it's already been implemented with success elsewhere. I would recommend some servers that I've seen use it but that could probably be considered advertising. If Intelli is willing to see it in action, if he hasn't already, I will gladly pm him a server address of one I liked though I think it could've been made even simpler with less coding.

Help bot - Just because you're here doesn't mean we all like to see the same questions asked and answered over and over again in chat. Whether you answer those questions or the mods and general population does. Just saying there might be a better and fairly simple way.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with weeding out those that can't be bothered to read through a few signs before they go off and "diggy diggy".

I personally wouldn't mind having a forced reading, but there are a few drawbacks. Coding, effort, placement, statistics on who it affects/who leaves.

I only have one question, was it ever a problem? Do we honestly need this? We already have the rules on the pathway out of spawn, and tutorials.
