Granted If I wanted to fight i should go to the nether, but getting charged by a bunch of people with nothing in their inventories tends to get a little boring. Think of all the new roles people can play if wilderness PVP was brought back.
I like the idea, but the only problem is defining what is meant by "wilderness." Is any public realm considered wilderness? Any realm more than X blocks from a spawn point? If this issue can get hammered out it would certainly add some more excitement to the game.

I agree that the nether isn't that great for PvP... few people are ever there, and those that are typically have just a sword and nothing else in their inventory. I mostly use it for quickly moving around the world, and even that function will become less-frequently used when the subway system is finished.
What I'm worried about are subway heists...

Well my point still stands. Some schmucks destroy a length of track and wait for someone to come along, kill them and take their stuff.

That would introduce some interesting strategies... attacking players is allowed, but destroying structures (even in public realms) is still a bannable offense, so constructing small huts near your territory (with entrances that can easily be sealed) would provide a place to safely hide from an attacker. I do like the idea of being able to set ambushes in subway tunnels though...

War made the PVP in 2.0 the worst time on Minerealm ever for me. I hated it, but under some circumstances it is fun. I much prefer arena combat.

I don't know, as one of the people who recently just started and didn't get to experience 2.0, I'd say it sounds like /pvp is a step down in 3.0. Just pretend that pvp'ers are slightly smarter than skeletons and zombies and everyone will do fine :)

Methinks cities would have to introduce subway lockdown measures to keep out invaders in addition to locking down their front gates.

Might give some of those redstone experts an excuse to use all those arrows that drop from skellies in a massive dispenser wall or something.

Ya, they could, or it could lead to more ppl quitting... and by the looks of the new ppl we've had lately, it more likely they'll just give up and quit. Then we're back to stale!

True. But they might be more inclined to get smarter and show more effort.
