I agree with CirJohn.

There are many people on this server who given the opportunity to take something they will.

Also i do Not store my items that deep I am saying that I own a spawn realm and spawn has many holes and mines underneath the ground, and because of that people can make there way to the storage room and finally setting there home there and never leaving.

Intelli, its a great idea in all, but the railway would be going through peoples realm and mines. There would be lots of mad people knowing theres a giant railroad destroying their mine/house.

The question is, is who would have a mine at a depth that shallow? The underground rails only have to be at a depth of 5-10 blocks - who has a mine at that depth? - the only mines I have at the moment are at bedrock level.

If it does go past mines, then the owner should be told to mine elsewhere. For the most part the mines we would hit would probably be disused anyway.

Your forgetting all the people like me with Mob/animal grinders/farming complex going from 5 to 40 depth.

This would be my main concern. However, there are so many public realms that, with the exception of the area around the spawn, the rail system could probably bypass most private areas. If it becomes necessary to go through private realms (particularly for larger cities that might have several private realms in a row, making bypass more bothersome), perhaps builders could be given special permission to work through one or two particular 50x50 plots, rather than being given rights to the entire city.

Other than that, if anybody decides to run with this project I would be happy to contribute some labor or the few railway materials I have.

This plan is i guess you would say still in Alpha mode, and that means to all the people worried like I was about them going through your precious realm do NOT worry.

1. Because the people working on this wonderful idea will have talked to the realm owner making sure they do not mess with anything that is in their realm.

2. It will be deep enough not to run into a underground farm of such unless your farm is close to 50 blocks.

3. If you the owner or user of the realm has something that deep then get in touch with one of the main builders of the railway system and they will move it to avoid hitting any of your areas that are in the way.

If we limit the build area to between *46 and *54 in the X and Z directions, it would provide an area 10 wide to build tracks a stations in while only using half that in each relavent realm. Do you guys think this would provide enough space to avoid most obstacles?

Also, I propose we use 2 sets of tracks and "drive on the right-hand side."

Minecarts themselves may be an issue. Atm, unattended minecarts are prone to disappearing quickly. This is understandable: the server must hate the extra work. But how will you get a minecart when you need one? Someone proposed a dispenser at spawn and major stations. That is a good idea, but someone has to refill it. Humans are inherently lazy, so I thought I'd come up with a few other options.

Option 1: Everyone can place a minecart in any realm. Obviously the normal restriction of only placing minecarts on tracks still applies. Benefit - easy to use, just keep a minecart handy when traveling. Problem - you have to have your own minecart.

Option 2: Admins/builders are given a special block that spawns a minecart when powered. This could include a small RC fee. Benefit - a spawner could provide easy access to minecarts at all stations, never runs out. Problem - created content, coding, updating, nightmare, intelli kills me for suggesting it.

Option 3: I don't have a realistic option 3. Someone else come up with option 3. And don't say "build it so the minecarts return to spawn." You've never seen that kind of lag.

It was somewhat of a noob filter because you either had to beg for an hour to get a cart, mine up the iron and smelt it, or purchase one. I don't think any of the subway needs protected, just vigilant players who care enough to report.

I agree with this for the most part. I did my best to help keep the subway running (as I spent most of my down time riding it like a small, easily amused child :3 ). I believe what really crippled the old subway was when rails stopped placing correctly for whatever reason. So, if enough people dedicate their services and materials to upkeep, we could do a decent job of it.

But I can also see the benefits of a protected system, especially if these rails are going to cover a large distance (can't keep an eye on every part of it). For those of you worried about shallow mines and whatnot, I really doubt it would kill you to lose a bit of them. Also, you could likely just ask to be left out of the rail lines. No doubt someone nearby would allow the lines to pass through their realms.

I like this option. It eliminates the need for mods or builders to provide minecarts for the entire server, and placing minecarts has very little (if any) potential for griefing. Also I suspect the minecarts-exempt-from-private-realm-protection plan would be quicker and easier to put together than creating a custom block that dispenses carts and collects RCs.
