People join SMP so they can PLAY SMP. They expect not to have to walk miles or wait hours to begin playing. That's not laziness; that's understandable. That's why the teleporter was added, spawn city has become so crowded with private realms that it's impossible to expect people to walk 1k blocks to public (albeit griefed) land. There is no good compromise when it comes to making it harder for new players to begin playing. Griefing and noob huts may become less prominent, but the general player population may plummet. You'll see more and more regulars leaving and less arriving.

TL;DR: Any cut you make to newb access to public land, you will also make on the popularity of the server.

The teleporter is non-vanilla. If its use is to be limited, limit it to just the newbies.

I think it should spawn you in a few specific places around the map to keep the walking distance down.

Almost like the old party server spawning.

I also voted no. I think the teleporter needs a different method of change then removing it.

Can you imagine a new player looking for a place to settle, only to end up in the wrong place and not be able to try again for another HOUR? It would take them possibly all day of non-stop searching for somewhere they would rather be.

You should secretly dp this, so that when a vet goes to the teleporter, the get stuck.
