EDIT: I'm not trying to spam or anything if that's what it seems like, but I think I speak for the whole community when I say that we're desperately waiting for this to be implemented. Guilds 2.0? Sure. Changes to the realm system? Great. But quartz? Pretty much a necessity.

So I came back and reread this thread cause it came back on the front page, and reading over the original post I realized that way back *ahem* when 1.5 came out, two changes to nether generation were made: quartz and lava. A newly generated 1.5+ nether has random single blocks of lava randomly placed inside netherrack just the same as quartz, but less of course. So I guess this would be more intensive to implement, but here's how it might work:
Same seed nether is generated by intelli, and
Quartz ore blocks are placed in current nether so long as they replace a piece of netherrack
Still lava blocks are placed in the current nether so long as they originally are surrounded completely by netherrack and are also completely surrounded in the target.

It just feels like if we're going to find a way to squeeze in the good of 1.5 nether generation, we should have the bad as well.

You can of course start up a new world if you want to see this for yourself.

Now, if you're talking about credits, I'd guess it would be worth 200-300rc per stack after the initial craze, but that's just a guess. It could end up like glowstone.
