Yes, but without them being FORCED to read the rules.

Here's the thing, Jon: my point here is that many newbs don't even notice the sign at spawn, so they don't realize what they're supposed to do. How many times have you seen n00bs spawn and just start wandering around randomly, asking "Where can I build?" (or more often, "were can I build?")

p.s. Typing this all out on my iPod is a pain.

Here is my suggestion: Make all newbies spawn in a box. To get out of the box you have to find the password to get out (Ex type in /intelli or /minerealm whatever). When you are walking through the box there will be rules you have to read and the full password to leave will be broken throughout the maze box. (Ex you will find one slightly hidden sign with /int- and another with -elli when you put them together in chat you may leave.) This forces the player to at least walk through and see all the rules. Also if you say the password in chat you will be banned. Either way, I agree that reading the rules needs to be enforced in some way.

I think muting the new players would help out too, if this were implemented. They'd just constantly spam, "how do I get out?" Most of them are on the server just to play with a few friends. Most of them don't even know why there would be any rules. Some of them went straight to MineRealm without trying out single player. They don't see reading rules as necessary. They want to get out their and start playing.

Anyway, yeah. Mute them until they get out. This would most likely drastically cut down on the player traffic, though. "Screw this. I can't do anything." They'll just leave.

I'm pretty sure that this counts as a useful necro, so I'm going to reply.

I think this is a good idea, but it would be incredibly difficult to make sure that

a. They actually read the rules, and not just the password, and
b. They don't go shouting out the password.

Making it bannable would be a great idea to discourage newbs and start a new Great Purge of sorts.

p.s. I had pretty much given up on this idea, but I still think it's a good one. Feel free to continue the discussion (as if I could stop you), but don't expect me to necessarily join in, especially considering I'm going to be on vacation for 10 days starting tomorrow.

Changed to invalid, didn't meet the 2 poll option requirement.

And on-topic, if someone is going to break the rules, they're going to do it regardless if they type a command to "accept" them or not.
