I honestly don't think any of this will be implemented. You can use Tab for finding a name, just say "AFK BRB LOL" if you are going AFK. There is no need for extra coding.

On a side note, this was approved for MineRealm 4.0, but sadly never got implemented. Maybe for 5.0?

My thoughts:

#1: See Ryu's thoughts. (AKA not useful)

#2: Mail, hmm. I think it should work more along the lines of linking forum msgs to in-game. For example, when you join, there would be a notice saying "You have X new forum messages."

Thanks for the comments guys, but I made this thread mainly to keep all suggestions for 5.0 in one place, not just to spout my ideas, so if you have another/better suggestion, put it here !

And yeah, I doubt my ideas will be implemented, though I may point out the main advantage of being afk is staying on the same chunk so that farms grow faster (or even at all with netherwarts), and making mob grinders more efficient.

1. AFK Command
It's at the top of the list for a reason. This command is one of the few things I thing minerealm really needs to include. it saves a lot of time and players can bypass having to ask "Are you afk?" msg every 5 minutes.

/afk Whenever someone msgs or /onlines you, it'll say "<Player> is AFK."
/afk 10 minutes I actually haven't seen this anywhere, but this would be cool. It'll stop the /afk from working after 10 minutes.
/afk I'll be right back Whenever someone msgs or /onlines you, it'll say "<Player> is AFK. I'll be right back." I have seen this implemented.

Unnecessary. If someone tries talking to you while you're afk, it will quickly become apparent that you're not there when you fail to respond.

3. Username Shortener
Instead of typing /msg supercreeper007, and if SuperCreeper007 is the only one online who's name starts with 'Super', I can just type /msg super, which saves alot of time if the person's username is something like: Bob12354312ADBT1241.

This could potentially be useful, particularly since many people have usernames with a number at the end. There have been times where I've had to hold down tab and look through the list of usernames to /msg someone, just because I usually ignore the random number when seeing them in chat.

2. Mail command
Pretty much self-explanatory. If they're offline/afk, and you don't know if you'll be online at the same time as them later, just mail 'em.

/mail read Shows all your mails in one box.
/mail clear Marks all your mails as read so that it won't say 'New Message(s)' when you next login.
/mail send to SuperCreeper007 hai Example of sending a mail. This would send the message 'hai' to me.

Its the list player symbol. If you need to do cmd+tab on a mac try that.

It fills the name based on their name. So you start typing /msg b, then press tab and it fills it to /msg billdawg151359327 and then pressing tab again would change it to the next person whose name starts with B in alphabetical order.

Never realized that. If this is possible, then a username-predicting code shouldn't be necessary.
