Every time there would be a wipe, the value of glow stone would dramatically decrease until it reached a point where people could buy stacks of glow stone for 10 rc. If everyone has glow stone, then it is no longer prestigious to build with and it just becomes another building material such as dirt or cobble. That is why i support to have no wipe. If you missed out on the initial race for it all, tough luck, the sacrifice you now have to make is whether you want to pay high prices for it as appose to just asking for more and more.

10000x10000 blocks would be better, like the overworld.

I dont want a reset!
Due to the compression of the nether compared to the overworld, this would be tricky; if the nether were expanded to 10000 x 10000 and the overworld were kept at that same size, we would probably be unable to use portals anywhere outside of the current 1250 x 1250 Nether area.

This:

would be a possibility though. For a while, the plan was to eliminate world boundaries at the time of the public realm wipe, thus making the world much larger (practically infinite). Nothing ever came of that plan though... IIRC it was cancelled due to concerns about lag or something like that.

ugh.. why was this bumped.. honestly, GS should be rare and always stay like this. Just because you didnt get on to go find some GS doesnt mean we all have to sufferwith the outrageously low Glowstone

Wipe it once a month. Noone is even selling right now due to potions and building plans. I have plenty but there is no way I'm going to let any of it go for any price if the Nether will never be wiped. I don't think I'm alone either. Now what is that going to do to any newcomers?

If you care for the newcomers, share some of your glowstone. Like i said earlier, if you guys didn't rush it in the first place then there would never be a shortage.

But since we don't live in a perfect world, it's going to be rare, just like oil in real life.

I think it's really dumb and silly to complain that GS should be a rare and valuable resource so the nether should never be wiped....if it's never wiped it effectively means eventually it will be a useless resource because the "tradable" portion of the resource will approach zero...probably more rapidly than most people would think...since there will be no way to replenish the supply it will over time it will become so valuable that it will become worthless because no one will be able to afford it and no one will be willing to trade the limited stock remaining.

For GS to maintain any useful value the nether would need to be wiped...just not very often.

Maybe once every quarter or once every 6 months...rarely enough it will keep a high value but often enough to keep it trading and therefore keep some value to the community.

Alternately Intelli could just spawn new glowstone maybe randomly in the nether itself to be mined or as rewards for quests/accomplishments/acheivements... Just something to keep a small but steady supply to offset what is destroyed by breaking blocks and potions.

Rare resource is supposed to be rare. If you didn't plan well enough to get some when it was available then you missed the free glowstone, period. If you weren't a member of the server at the time, then it's your bad luck. Would you also have your mines reset because they have run out of diamonds? Where does it end?

In any case, if you don't have it then you need to buy it. If you can't afford it then use an alternative. Need lighting in block form? Use jack-o-lanterns. Need more potion duration? Make more potions.

The nether (like the the overworld) won't be reset until the majority of the resources have been used up. You'll just have to wait on them potions to make the old glowstone go away.

It's not that it is rare, it is that it is essentially gone. A nether reset every 3-5 months would not hurt the prices very much. The only people who don't like this are those who are hoarding the stuff cause they think the price will go up, its GONE you already have total control over the price if you keep your sales in the PM's, or people who plan on building something big with it. In either case you either cannot buy glowstone or you have to pay through the nose for it. Newer players should have access to the stuff too, but it should still be rare, and it will be if it is reset at the right times.

Jack-o-lanterns are hardly a replacement for glowstone, they could never match the aesthetic quality of the stuff, and look kind of silly in massive numbers. As well, glowstone increases the effectiveness of a potion not the duration, so making more potions doesn't have the same effect at all.

The reason this is still relevant is because the market for glowstone is screwed up. Glowstone currently is an exhausted resource. Every time it is used the total amount of glowstone is the market is decreased. Many people keep it stockpiled and do not sell because of this very reason. This causes prices to skyrocket and gives an advantage to the few players who have it stockpiled for the use of potions.

In 3.0 glowstone was not hard to buy. Lot's of people sold it at 4000-5000 a stack, which was going rate. Niw after the wipe, it's hard just finding someone who will sell it at all, no matter the price. This is odd, seeing as the glowstone reserve went up (glowstone from 3.0 was kept, plus a whole netherload more after the wipe).

Not saying I support this idea, I just want to buy glowstone.

Solution: make it so picks with Fortune have a chance to drop more than 4 glowstone dust when breaking glowstone. The rarity of fortune picks will help keep the value of glowstone up.

Say, a 25% chance that a block will drop 5 instead of 4 dust with Fortune III?
