There's no "like whitelisting" here. This IS a whitelist, simply wrapped up in a pretty package so that we can say we aren't a whitelist server. Since some of you weren't here the last time it was brought up, let me inform/remind you of server policy on the matter:

...until Intelli decides that he wants it to be one, and then we will. Heck, Intelli could decide that to play on his server people would have to send him pictures of themselves wearing green hats and waving Candian flags, and we would all have to do it if we wanted to play on Minerealm!

Why green hats you ask? Intelli LOVES the color green!!!

But really, Intelli has made it pretty clear in the past that he doesn't want a whitelist, so unless he changes his opinion it will never happen.

I like how minerealm is very easily accessible to new players while still being fun for everyday players. This limits access to new players which is how we get a lot of consistent players. Also some people may not feel like they want forum accounts. Some may not feel like going to some website even for a one time visit.
