If you find that you've made an unnecessary or embarrassing post, just edit it to say "disregard" or something like that until you can think up something else to say. It would be weird if they added a delete button, say someone responds to your post, then you delete it. That guy would sound like he's just speaking at random, which would be weird for people who are just finding the thread.
