You could possible create a mod that counts con lient side, as an unofficial amount of credits gained.

But keep in mind the "No Client mods" rule, I do not know how much it applies here.

Don't really see this as necessary. I agree that it's fun and/or useful to keep track of how many credits you've earned while out mining, but I just write down my initial credit count and check again later to compare the two values.

I think this would be helpful.. instead of having to stop to check where you are. I'd guess that it wouldn't be difficult to make a simple mod that continually checks, even if it updates every 10 seconds or so. That definitely wouldn't be against the mod rules, since it doesn't affect gameplay positively or negatively, just a convenience.
