PvP can already be turned on or off by the person. If they don't want to get attacked, they just need to turn it off. Pretty simple.

It should be disabled, its like you go to the bank irl and just because you forgot to put a special name tag on before you left all the security guards start beating the crap out of you, then steal your wallet and lol at you. PVP gets turned on sometimes without you typing /pvp, if you are in the nether and leave it doesnt always turn it off for you, sure you could type /pvp just to check after exiting the portals, but most people dont have the patience or simply forget about it. People who pvp the trade room are just hoping some poor sap has pvp on for some reason and they want to rob him blind, being exempt from punishment because 'he had pvp on, not my fault i got rich!'
