Hi all.

So, I've noticed that there are permabans, then there are permabans. Some of them are of the "personally contact Intelli" variety (texas, for example), some are of the "wait for a long while on an appeal and you might get somewhere" variety (OneManWo1fPac), and some are of the "no way will you ever, ever, EVER be unbanned" variety (Pro_Johnny, Lightbulbs). Now, this is just a shot in the dark, but it seems to me that it would be useful to have a category called an extended ban, for the following reasons.

1. It would prevent absolutely permabanned players from spamming the forums/Intelli with appeals in the hopes of getting unbanned.
2. It would silence people's complaints about "corruption in the ban system".
3. It would make the ban process a lot less confusing/ambiguous.

The extended ban would be something like this: a ban that would last at least 6 months (or 9 months, or 3 months, whatever Intelli and Rokkr deem reasonable), and be possible to appeal for once that time had passed, or (possibly) previous to that, via personally contacting Intelli. Of course, if Intelli were contacted multiple times after a refusal to lift the ban early, it could be made into a true permaban, which would never be lifted in any circumstances. Note that the extended ban would not necessarily be lifted at the end of the time period; it would merely become permissible to post an appeal for it.

I don't know if we're supposed to post rule change suggestions like this, but I hope you guys will consider it. Thanks for reading.

No.

It's simple enough as it is: rejected bans can be appeals again, until unbanned or perma-banned. Perma-banned players should never be allowed on the server ever again but the gracious and merciful heart of Intelli sometimes makes exceptions.

The basic idea behind my suggestion is that there are some people who have broken the rules many times, but might still be admitted back if permabanned. On the other hand, there are people who have absolutely no chance whatsoever of being unbanned, such as Lightbulbs. The idea is to separate them into two different categories, to make it clear who has a chance.

BTW, if anyone's wondering, I got the idea from ColdF3ar.
What part about PERMANENT BAN isn't clear? They are gone and maybe probably wont be retuning until a minimum of 8 monthsish. Either way, the main thing is that they aren't going to be playing any time soon. Actually renaming Perma to Extended ban might not be so bad...

I don't think you understand. I'm not suggesting this because of any particular user. I'm suggesting it because I believe that there's a chance that the server might be better served by this system, as it would quiet the players who think Intelli just randomly unbans people, and destroy the hopes of actually permabanned players who think they might get unbanned, preventing situations such as the Pro_Johnny/cameraman fiasco, where a user believed that he could be un-permabanned since he had seen it occur before. Essentially, it's clearing up the meaning of "permaban", which isn't clear right now because not all permabans are absolutely permanent, although some are intended to be. While it could definitely be a rejected suggestion, the only reason it could be invalid is if Intelli decided to exclude rule-change/ban system-change from suggestions by democracy, which is entirely possible.

I agree that the varying permanence of "permanent" bans is an issue that should be addressed, but I don't think creating an official new class of bans is necessary. Rather, I'd prefer to see permabans be truly permanent, but also used much more reservedly in the future. The existing class of non-permanent normal bans can accommodate everything from minor mistakes to serious offenses.

Hey, it's just an idea.

That would most definitely be ideal.
