I can't see this being implemented, solely because it's far too easy to abuse, and so far, any proposed fix just makes it worse. Not only that, but Staff are there for a reason, as are ban requests and the F2 key.

Of course, if for some reason this pulls through, I'm going to laugh myself silly when veterans decide to have "Kick all the Staff Day".

Thanks for being detailed about the idea. The problem is I do not trust veteran players to make unbiased decisions. IMO, there is no grey area to security, its either all or nothing. The idea as described however targets specific players and lets say hypothetically I want to get around being vote kicked... I would just wait 24 hours.

Staff aren't always on. In fact, many times when I'm on they aren't there. However, this idea does have a few fundamental flaws with it.

This post is reserved for future information regarding the subject. - See this thread http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... =7&t=12426

I will state as the others have this can and would be easily abused/exploited. As far as that ^ I will update the post soon.

Well as I was going to say earlier, I don't see this as a option for quite a few reasons.

Guilds/Veterans - To start as other have said I can see people abusing it especially veteran/biased players. You will say well others can balance it but let's be honest here there are different groups and those groups will listen to the players in their groups no matter what other players say or do. So that one reason it's a bad idea.

Alt accounts - Another issue is alt accounts. Quite a few players have alts so all they need to do is go on a alt and bump their votes to better suit what they want the vote to be.

Spam bots - With the appropriate settings hackers/spammers/whatever you want to considered them could use this as a potential exploit to kick everyone off the server. What you guys fail to realize is these types of people have tons of accounts and not necessarily are they all new to a server. So all they would need to do is initiate a /votekick on whoever they want launch the bot and all their accounts would login and do their bidding on whatever they tell it too. Now I know some will say well you can follow the ip these bots they use are very specific and use a different proxy for each account so this makes it almost 99% not effective against them and they will use it against you and keep all players from logging in.

Staff - Well I think I speak for all the staff when I say I don't feel like looking through all these vote kick logs and verifying if they were legit or non-legit. It would just take up more time and wasted effort to keep track of all of them.

As far as the rest it is all being addressed in a thread I will post shortly, but most of the concerns are not needed. I see your concerns but I don't see this as a viable option to give the public this type of power with all the negative/exploits that can be used.

This is a great idea.

I think the voting should be open to all players not just vets and that 50% is too high. I think about 10 people being offended enough by what someone is saying in chat should be enough. And anyone who is spamming/being inappropriate in chat should be subject to the kickvote, not just accounts new to the server.

If people abuse it, ban the abusers. If you vote just to be a jerk or act ike a "mini mod" you will have the risk of being banned upon review by staff. (All voters not just the initiator).

Got kicked and feel it was unjust? Write an appeal and ask the staff review it. (Different from an appeal admitting and apologizing for what you did). There are times when no staff are on that things can get very annoying and downright inappropriate, it would be great to have a way to take care of that.

Like all new things, a few people will abuse it in the beginning, but after a short while it will simmer down and be a tool that mostly just those that play more and pay attention to chat and forums will even know is there. It will be an effective and welcome way of dealing with an unpleasant situation instead of feeling like you have to /chat.

edit: staff should be automatically immune, except for Intelli :p

Some player can be quite sensitive, or bossy and may use kick vote for the littlest things that aren't even wrong.

Then the user who got kick voted may think that he's doing something wrong when he didn't.

But, I have to say this could come in handy in many ways. If no admins are on and someone continues to spam and Mr. Helpbot doesn't detect it, you could vote to kick.

So I'd say this is a very good idea, but has some downsides to it.

No. While you have thoroughly thought this through (astounding alliteration), I don't see the point. This, along with many other suggestions, are fixes to relatively minor problems that can be resolved using different methods. It basically just bloats the server with extra commands and rules, making it even harder for new players to understand the server. In some circumstances, I could see this causing more trouble than it is worth.
