Additionally, in the case of players who don't know why they were banned, it would be rather difficult to turn "I don't know why I was banned, could somebody please tell me?" into a decent-sized paragraph.
Good point. I was thinking about this myself. It would have to look something like this:
"In truth, I'm not quite so sure why I should be unbanned, due to not knowing the reason for my banning. All I know is that I have not blatantly disregarded the rules nor have I purposefully broken any of them. This being said, I would like to apologize for whatever the reason was for my banning, and once I know what that reason is, I can apologize more meaningfully. As said before, I follow the rules of the server to the best of my ability. I enjoy playing with the community very much and I am sorry for whatever wrongdoing I have caused. I look forward to a response, and I thank the staff for looking into this appeal and taking the time out of their day to judge it."
Although that seems quite heartfelt, it well get extensive. I could already sense my thoughts being repeated as I typed out this example. Perhaps if the reason they had to choose from was "I do not know why", they wouldn't have to type out 100 words.
Besides that, I love the suggestion. All you really need to say in an appeal is why you were banned, and an apology. If these were the only two sections, it would keep players more on track. It would also clean up the bans section quite well. And, if I may add, players should only be able to create a topic in the bans section once every 24 hours. It would stop multiple appeals from being spammed. The combination of the two would provide one nice and neat appeal. I don't see how that would be a bad thing.
