Hey guys! I'm on the fence about buying an ouya. On one hand Its a pretty awesome idea with supposedly a lot of backing. On the other ith hasn't gotten rave reviews and has no real "killer app".

So if you could be so kind as to give me some solid info, support on whether or not I should buy oneit would be much appreciated!

Personally I would not go anywhere near android, it has a geek coolness factor like Linux. However, both impractically unless you want/need to be on your own island. In which case I would say go for it... you will get to play with a system that few others will experience, just do not expect many outside their community to understand when you start talking about playing game X.

I know very little of android phones and their specs. I'm guessing the nexus 7 isn't the top of the line model, this doesn't mean much to me. Sure it's nice to get the highest processors/graphics card/whatever else, but I won't lie the last time I was truly impressed by video graphics was Star Wars rogue leader. Since them graphics have not sold a single console/video game. If that sounded combative I'm sorry that's not my intention.

Also @ wormoxide you bring up some valid points. However I'm not a social gamer (I doubt more than a few people on here even know me) and that's kind of the way I like it. None of my friends are into games, I'm a bit of a black sheep in that sense. So really lack of large community won't affect me.

And lastly, eah, that is another point. I'm not a typical risk taker when it comes to these purchases, but I think the potential of ouya is worth the $99.

I kickstarted ouya and have a console with two controllers. It arrived early this week so I haven't had a chance to play with it although the kids did a bit. Personally I would not recommend buying one unless you see something on it you really want to play. In that case, it's a really simple choice - it will only set you back the cost of a couple of PS3/Xbox games. Go out and get it. I'm sure if it was the only device that supported minecraft, most of the people on the server would rush out and buy one - it's the games and cost that matter, not the operating system and hardware.

I think the Ouya is important though. It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to create a game that runs on the PS3 or Xbox. It's not something done by a teenager on in a basement. Development on a PC, tablet or Ouya is much more in the range of a small group or single talented programmer. So it's distinctly possible that the Ouya might spawn some really exciting new game for the console playing crowd.

Of course, it's possible that we're seeing the end of the console as we know it. Embedding something like the Ouya in a TV is not really far off. Who wants to spend $500 on a console when you can turn on your TV, grab a controller, and hit the app store.

Here's and article on CNET talking about this: (I can't post URLs at the moment. Google:
why xbox one and ps4 may be the final generation of consoles cnet
for the article.

Any chance you know how the emulators work on it? To me they are probably it's greatest selling point until there's more quality original software.
