but we knew that would happen, why is this a surprise. i invested all my credits before the wipe because i liked a certain area and wanted it to be imported. i felt safe spending my money because we all VOTED for this option. if the voting outcome wasnt in your favor, get over it, there is PLENTY of free land that is unspoiled. also, i kind of like the unreset realms in the middle of the new land. its like an interesting melding of MineRealm 3 and MineRealm 4.

I was always for a full wipe and full reset (including credits).
I voted, and i talked about it.

But the polls went heavily against the idea, so I accepted it was what the majority wanted. I "reset" for myself, found a new realm, and started with 0 credits. I'm happy playing now, and I realize how much effort was put into merging the two worlds (3.0,4.0).

If the majority of people vote for a full reset, I would be on-board. But a "map only reset" without credits, no way. I started new in this map. If I lose my buildings, I want to have a full fresh start.

But I think its too late for any optimism of a wipe now. The more time passes, the more work is put into the new map. The more people are attached. I think its too late now, so I'm gonna have fun with what I have now.

I'm not really upset about the "patchwork quilt" of the current map, these issues can easily be sorted out with a bit of terraforming in cases where biomes changed, or (as of 4.0.1) reset by mods in the case of chunks that didn't reset properly.

If a full map wipe happens, though, we should be able to keep credits AND be able to keep an inventory full of stuff (i.e. no wipe of player inventories, but wipe of all placed blocks).

That's idiotic. Why reset at all then? If we were to do a full reset (which we aren't), all credits, inventories, etc, would be wiped.

We have standing orders to smooth out the edges of our realms within a month. Why does that matter? Simple: it's going to get momentum going on making that patchwork an integrated whole. No, I'm not happy about my realms being 10 meters above sea level in the surrounding ocean. I'd probably just leave 'em like that, but I'm required to fix it, which gives me the push to make it look a little better. It'll get worked out, just give it some time.

Also, the newly ocean'd realms (which include a number of very nice staff realms, incidentally. I wound up passing through Kero and Spritzo's places.) are very Wind Waker-esque.

A reset that keeps credits/inventories but gives a new map without imported realms/chunks would satisfy those who complain about the "patchwork" appearance of a map consisting of some new chunks and some old ones, but it wouldn't satisfy those who want to completely start from scratch. From what I've seen on the forums, the former complaint seems more common than the latter.

To answer your question more directly*, the purpose of resetting at all would then to be address only the complaints about the patchwork appearance of the map, while allowing those of us happy with the current map to at least keep some valuables from it.
*yes, I'm ignoring the fact that it was a rhetorical question

Of course, if we aren't resetting at all, then this is all a moot point.

Everything I've said was wrong. I appreciate Intelli's effort to make Minerealm better.
