Wouldn't it be a better system to ban people for a day or something first and then have it scale up each time? This would solve people just not knowing rules, or not reading signs. Plus there would be many less appeals if users knew they would be unbanned in a day or a week or something. Why shouldn't it scale up instead of being permanent for the first offense? Especially for people banned for flying.

Mock Scaling System:
Day
Week
Month
2 Months
Permanent

It seems abnormal to me to ban people forever for small infractions until they get appealed. (If they get appealed) Plus appeals can take months, why not just make a system like this where people won't have to post appeals? Once they are at Permanent ban status there is no reason for an appeal as they would never be unbanned. Anyway at least consider it.

I say leave it as is. With the current appeal system, it shows if a player truely wants to be apart of the community rather than just an avo fanboy who runs around greifing/stealing/spamming/cursing. I personally like the system we have but with the backup of appeals i think maybe they (the admins) need to start crackin on some of them :3

Flanny is correct in this matter. Your proposed system gives too many chances, and shows they are not serious, and do not care about being unbanned.

I went through the ban section of the forums, and just tried to get an idea of what people were getting banned for. The top four categories are griefing, xraying, flying, and swearing.

I personally don't want someone to have a second opportunity for doing any of these again. The second that the administration shows any leniency in the rules, then we lose the quality we have now.

Faeyn's pretty much got it, though I'd say you could distill those four categories into just jerks and cheaters. If we could only find a way to catch the utter idiots, too.

Also, I suspect that the delay in appeal response is entirely intentional. Anybody who's not sincere is going to get tired of waiting a disappear, while anybody that's a blithering moron, self-entitled twit, or otherwise unpleasant will make it apparent in that time, etc. Furthermore, the not knowing when/if you'll ever be unbanned is probably a pretty good punishment in and of itself; the time spent banned is thus much more meaningful to those who do manage to get unbanned.

My system was a mock system, even a system with at least one warning would probably serve the purpose. Also why should the admins wait MONTHS to post in an appeal even if the person could have been wrongly banned?

If the ban is in the small percentile of being false, then the player is banned almost immediately. If they are lying or faking, the admins can tell the difference, and make them wait. One warning is too much, unless by the helpbot for swearing.

'I rolled back the tens of thousands of blocks that you griefed, just don't do it again mmmmkai? :D'

Greifing 1000 blocks would take half an hour or so. They would have to greif for hours to have greifed tens of thousands of blocks. Most 'Greifers' are banned for breaking one thing, and a lot because they didn't read the rules. Also I've got two or three friends of mine banned for "flying", and yet even a month later with multiple people vouching for him one of my friends is still banned with no admin post whatsoever in the appeal.

It's the concept of a warning.
