Bizarre Visual Defect or Some Other Oddity?

I was running aimlessly around in the extensive mines that line the western border of Minerealm and I came upon this:

It's hard to tell with your texture pack, but I think that it's either a flaming arrow (idk how it would've gotten there lol) or the lava flaring up through the obsidian.

What texture pack is that? That is probly a entity glitches in between lava, and obbsideon.

I was mining around lava level once again and I discovered what was going on. I saw the exact same flame glitch on cobble stone that was covering lava. So, curious what it might be, I broke the cobble under it and this is what I found:
