Also, damage reduction is capped, so says the wiki. Up to a certain point of a set of armor's "strength", the damage reduction doesn't change. #4 auction provides the same damage reduction as a full set of protection IV.

And if you're not a big fan of grinding blazes, #2 might be for you! It's cheap! And, blaze rods might earn an important use in the future.
