You're right. It lasts for nearly 2 minutes in lava before the helmet breaks and you slowly die.

Just a word to any buyers:
Protection 4 is amazing. It's very hard to die in. Although you might be hard to kill, you are not invincible. A PvPer with worse armor can win against you if they've got a good enough sword and the right potions. So, you won't win all of your fights just because you've got this armor.
Also very important - Although this armor doesn't actually break faster then normal armor, it definitely seems like it! You will be surprised how fast this armor will degrade.
Anyhow, although 30k seems a bit high, it's quite worth it. It takes long enough to get level 40-45 and enchant protection 4, and once you factor in the unlucky enchantments like blast protection you are bound to get, 30k is actually a fair price.
