I have been searching around and cant find an answer to this so /newtopic.
What is the minimum distance needed for flocks of 6 animals to keep them from despawning.
At the moment I have my pens set about 8 blocks from each other. From that point I let 6 gather and if I am killing them for resources I kill 2 at a time and have the other 4 make two more babies.
So yeah, is there some more detailed info out there for farming animals I have missed?

Specific details about the mob limiter script can be found
here.
3 blocks in between the inside walls of 2 pens usually works well.

I have a grid lay out with fence/4 spaces/ then another fence.
+_ _ _ _ + Like that but since I made it in a grid that means I have flocks of sheep that are surrounded on all 4 sides...and those pens usually end up with only one or two sheep in it. On the other hand I can get 4-6 in the corner stalls but if any random outside animal touches the wall the the building...the script will delete some of my sheep rather than the random.
Now that I think of it, why is there not a write up on this? I know people out there must have successful farms, figured out the spacing (sorry Eah, but your spacing is garbage and does not work at all, maybe it does for pens of 2 but im looking for 4-6) and are now just holding the secrets...I have looked up and down the forums (not that it is made easy either) and dont see anything that helps. What I did find was people trying to sell villagers for upwards of 60k a pair?
So since my time gone you all have decided it would be alot more fun to horde and keep the secrets of minerealm?
WARNING!: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED DONT READ IF YOU ARE A L_____ B____ THAT HAS EYES THAT BLEED FOR NO REASON. Anyone that tried to gouge with villagers is on my perma ignore list, all I saw was lisping Ausies that shouldnt make youtube videos (free_diamonds) and kids trying to flex baby nuts.
WTF is all the good info at?
EDIT: 8 spaces between pen fences works for 6pens of cows fyi have not tried 7 or 6 spaces yet but I have little faith.

Just thought I'd mention that villagers were worth upwards of 60k (150k with the first dealer) when the trading snapshot was first released. Only a few lucky players had villages up and running, and were making huge profits when they were the craze.

I have a sheep/wool farm which has 16 pens in a 4x4 fashion. Each pen is 5x5 blocks in area. The walls of the pens are solid blocks and in between the walls of the pens are blocks.
O.O.O.O.O.X.X.X.X.X.X.O.O.O.O.O
O=inside pen
X=solid block between pens
There are 5 sheep situated within each pen and it works great. I have found a partial loss of sheep very few times and an entire loss only once (probably some noob got in and killed them all). I have solid blocks in between the pens to ensure sheep do not glitch out of their pens (which might be happening with you, cdisme). Of course, if there are solid blocks in between pens, that might mean they'd just suffocate in the walls and die. I remember in the early stages of developing my sheep/wool farm, I had witnessed with my own eyes the sheep suffocating and glitching out of their pens. I'm fairly certain they do this no longer.
My farm works. Feel free to copy its exact design. But I'm sure there are more compact designs. Haven't bothered to take time to test. I doubt a randomly wandering sheep can run into your corner stalls and despawn some. It's just too unlikely to consider.
Other reasons sheep may be missing:
Wolves kill sheep
Glitch out of pens
Player kills them
Intelli changes the mob limiter script
Suffocate in walls/ground
I suggest you keep them below ground with grass above ground to ensure wolves do not spawn in their pens (don't know exactly how and where wolves spawn).
And, cdisme, your posts are very abusive. Staff, consider this my informal temp forum ban request for cdisme.

Thanks for the info, I have to edit my farm anyways. The current one has been lackluster to say the best.
CURRENT
Inside pen is 3 by 3 surrounded by fence (5 by 5)
4 empty blocks in between pens
FENCE:= SPACE:0 PEN:X
=XXX=0000=XXX=0000=XXX=0000=XXX=
=XXX=0000=XXX=0000=XXX=0000=XXX=
=XXX=0000=XXX=0000=XXX=0000=XXX=
The bold spots are my problem pens. Again, it is the pens that have 4 other pens surrounding it, one on each side. I have witnessed it deleting several times (the mob limiter script) so my design isn't working one way or another.
I don't think they can suffocate while using fencing, or glitch through for that matter. But that is only what I have seen so far.
So just trying to confirm information here.
