Farewell glowstone market.
A villager will trade 1 emerald for 3 glowstone.
First know, a villager will gain another item to buy/sell if you buy at least 2 of the previous item. Regardless of price.
[The following are based on many trade transactions, the exchange rate fluctuates per villager.]
A villager will trade 17 wheat for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 16 coal for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 15 raw beef for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 8 gold ingots for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 14 raw porkchops for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 25 paper for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 9 cooked fish for 1 emerald, or
A villager will trade 12 books for 1 emerald, etc...
Therefore...
17 wheat - 3 glowstone,
12 books - 3 glowstone,
16 coal - 3 glowstone, etc...
9 cooked fish for 3 glowstone? I would start fishing.
Cheers, 1.3

I would like to point out, that it is not quite as bad as the original post makes it seem.
First, there are five different types of villagers. Only one of them will ever carry glowstone. Second, priests will not always be willing to trade glowstone. Villagers will stop trading after a certain number of trades occur, so you will have to kill them and make more (growing up takes some time). You'll have to waste emeralds on redstone of all things...
EDIT: I'm not 100% sure on the stopping trading, actually...

But yea... it's still pretty bad.

My original post is based on just testing with the villagers. I didn't look up any information on their trading habits. As far as I've tested, I managed to get 6 stacks of glowstone from one villager without him stopping. I have not seen them stop trading after a certain number of trades. And I've gotten them to open up to 3-4 different items with one villager, could of kept going with that as well. So as long as you keep alive the villager that will give you 3 glowstone for 1 emerald.... you're golden.

According to the wiki, after repeating a particular trade 13 times, they stop. The exception is if it's their only trade.

I don't see a problem with this, yes only people with villagers will be able to trade them but, we are always complaining about not having glowstone on the market, the more glowstone they make, the more the whole community can have.
