Just some questions

Here we go:

1. Why are mobs restricted to 5 in a 10x10 area (and are these stats correct)?
2. Why have all the pigs disappeared (yes this happened a long time ago, but I still don't know)?
3. Are pig spawners naturally spawned (I came across one along with very glitchy lighting in many of the caves surrounding, can't remember exactly where though)?
5. When is 4.5 officially released (I would like it to be sometime when I can actually play, check my signature)?
6. Did you notice that I skipped question 4?

1. It reduces lag. Imagine if everyone could let their spawner traps build up 1k mobs to kill them all. That's a LOT of additional monsters. This compromise allows us to prevent that behavior, while still allowing use of spawner and farms. No, those stats are not completely correct.
Intelli wrote:The mob limiter script only does the following:

1. Checks each mob loaded into memory.
2. Finds other mobs within 3 blocks of that mob
3. If it finds more than 5 mobs, it removes the additional mobs.

So to clarify, if you have 5 mobs in one spot, it will not remove them.
If you have 11 mobs in one spot, it will remove 6 of them, and leave 5.
2. They still spawn, but they despawn extremely shortly after. You can find them on MR every now and then, but it is very rare, and they WILL disappear. It's a glitch of some kind I think... not sure why.

3. No, they aren't. Pig spawners are created when a destroyed spawner is rolled back. They are considered a glitch and should not be used/advertised/sold.

5. idk.

6. I skipped to the bottom for some reason and read this... so yea... not sure if I would have noticed.

Based on that, 5 is the ultimate maximum in ANY given area (or volume as it should be called). If you have 6 mobs in ANY given area, there is a chance you may return and only find 5. Mobs obviously wander around in their pen. The likeliness that they will become clustered enough at some point to finish the mob limiter script and despawn some mobs is obviously dependent on how big their pen is. If it's a 5x5 pen, you can probably get away with 5 mobs. If it's a 10x10 pen, you might get away with 10 mobs. All you have to do is breed a bunch then wait till they despawn to their maximum. But if you waited forever, they would eventually despawn to 5 mobs in any area.

Adding 3-block-thick walls helps a bunch too.

Oh, and it's important to note that holding wheat will cluster animals. Breeding more cows when you already have 10 in a pen may be very difficult.
