Lotteries in Minerealm

I feel that there should be a limit as to the number of tickets you can buy towards a lottery held in minerealm. To make it fair for the poor folk, and make sure the rich folk do not out-buy the poor folk and guarantee that they win it all.
Please be nice in your comments and do not start arguments. Also, please stay on-topic.
Edit: I edited the poll to make things feel neutral. I allowed Re-voting if your selection got changed, but only for a short period of time.

Good point. In some ways, I think I should probably limit the tickets per person to, say, 5. OTOH, it takes away the advantage of being rich. I say the host should choose.
EDIT: BTW, the poll question seems a bit rigged, lol.

Enlighten me how it feels rigged? I will want to avoid this feeling next time I make a poll.

The question your poll asks is in no way neutral. It makes a value judgement, which will influence votes unfairly. Also, the answers provided are more suited for a poll asking if lotteries should be limited in how many tickets a player may purchase. It's a GIVEN that lotteries should be fair; shenanigans will result in a ban, just like with auctions.

How should I make it feel neutral?
Edit: I see where you are getting at. just realized my mistake. I fixed it, but it seems to not feel neutral. -_-

Having the means and desire to buy lots of lottery tickets isn't that much of an advantage beyond a certain point--if you really want to win a lottery, you can skew the odds in your favor by buying more and more tickets... but eventually you'll have spent as much on tickets as the items in the lottery are worth, meaning it's not profitable even if you win.
In other words, this idea is utterly unnecessary.

Having many tickets does grant you an advantage, prodigy. Why you say my idea is utterly unnecessary? Its like you saying that being fair is an insult to minerealm. I love fairness ingames and in forums.

Hey Obama, what's up? If you'd deign to actually read my post, you'd see my explanation that "
eventually you'll have spent as much on tickets as the items in the lottery are worth, meaning it's not profitable even if you win." Protip: defining your proposed idea as "fair" without giving us any concrete reason to think that it is, or that the current system is "unfair," really isn't that strong of an argument.

Yeah I saw that bit, and felt it was irrelevant seeing many of the people in minerealm have more credits to spend, and the last lottery done. Was by intelli and it was 1k a ticket, more like a win no loss there. 2 or 3 dudes can buy a 100 tickets while the majority can get between 3 to 15 if they can.
Why you be like that and go calling people names? That is very disrespectful man.

I'm sure some are still a bit confused. Let me play it out in a non-arbitrary fashion.
If there are 1 million tickets and 1 million lotteries, and person A buys 1 ticket each lottery, then each lottery, person A will have a 1 in a million chance of winning. Playing 1 million lotteries will result in winning once. If person B buys 500,000 tickets (half) each lottery, person B will have a 1 in 2 chance of winning each lottery. Playing 1 million lotteries in the same way will result in winning 500,000 times.
However, if a ticket costs (say) 1 credit, then person A would have spent 1 million credits and won 1 milling credits. Person B would have spent 500,000,000,000 credits and won 500,000,000,000.
Given this huge difference in person A's and person B's number of tickets bought, they both earn zero profit.
The above example assumes that the jackpot is equal to the sum of the price of all tickets bought. If the jackpot is more than the tickets bought, whoever buys the most tickets is at an advantage. One will want to buy the most tickets. But if the jackpot is less than the tickets bought, you will want to buy the least tickets to be at the most advantage, and that's zero. In fact, this is how most IRL lotteries work. The winnings (and sometimes tickets) are taxed, so if you played an infinite number of times, you will have a net loss. Brian's Law: The lottery is just a tax on stupid people. I.E. Don't play the lottery!
