Just a statement of fact.

This is not a suggestion, because it has been made clear that no one is open to the brilliance of the idea. Just a statement of fact in lieu of the massive griefing that has always gone on in spawn city, and the more recent defacement of the airship under construction:

IF Spawn City was a private realm with visitors allowed, and only mods or accepted applicants were allowed building rights within it, this griefing problem would not exist.

(Cog claims to be able to prove that this is not a factual statement, which is why I posted  )

I never said that it wasn't factual, I simply said it was a terrible idea. This has been said before, and logically refuted. Mods and admins do enough for the server without everyone attempting to give them more to deal with. Before we had realms, every single building besides spawn was able to be griefed. Any pre-teen with social problems could go up and hack away as they pleased. This was countered by the players, who would work to keep their cities alive and thriving. I hate to bring this back, but the night Team Avolition hit Kurachi, anyone who could spare a hand helped clean up. If you really cared about spawn, you'd fix the griefing, instead of telling the staff to do it for you.

I don't mind fixing the griefing, I do it more often lately than I work on my own realm when I'm online. I'm just thinking of ways to prevent the problem in the first place. I don't want to force anyone to do anything. It seems to me that if you love Minecraft, and you're a mod on this server, than maintaining people's first impression of Minerealm should already be happily your first priority. I know if I were a mod I'd be excited about such a change, and more than willing to participate.

Really? Having a frozen spawn town is what you'd consider a good impression? Because that speaks to me of a server that has big enough problems with griefers that it has to shut down part of its area, and that doesn't sound like so great of a place. By keeping spawn open, we have a living creation that serves as both new player assessment and ablative armour. How many people have we caught going straight for the farm? Exactly. Spawn let us tag them as players we didn't really want on this server, and ban them. Maybe a newbie isn't ready to just head out? That's fine, there's probably a griefed-up building near spawn where they can show some of their creativity by fixing it up.
Leaving spawn open helps us far more than you think.
And, yes your fact is indeed a fact, and not just an opinion. But stopping griefing by killing spawn is a case where the cure is worse than the problem.

I think the best way to have an idea completely and totally discredited is by having Icarus suggest it on the forums.
Or maybe the cause and effect is the other way around. It's a mystery of life I suppose.

I haven't studied anyone's posts here, so sorry if I'm reiterating, but:

Spawn should not be a private realm. I find it incredibly helpful that it is public, because that is how we get 90% of the idiots that show up here banned, as opposed to them breaking something further out / isn't as proveable. This acts as like a filtration system to keep idiocy centralized, so that talented works further out can be rewarded.

This also punishes those who think it's a good idea to build near spawn. I have no sympathy for players that are griefed if they are within 200 blocks of spawn, and yes this problem comes up alot. You want to avoid getting griefed? Don't build your freakin house right next to spawn. There's no science to this guys: just get the heck out of spawn
