Minerealm's Uncertain Future (and mine too!)

Well, it seems that my place in Minerealm is currently up to the mercy of Aelcalan. Either I stay, or am banned forever. No, this is not a plead for mercy or goodbye thread, just a few observations and suggestions.

Over the year and a bit (I joined the forums long after I joined the game), I noticed that slowly, less people were on minerealm. More vets were leaving, especially now, and more problems are arising. Minerealm is a great server but recently, it has become rather...stale. There is nothing new, nothing exiting or pleasing. The biggest events now are the complete dissolving of NTC, the formation and fusion of factions and the occasional banning festival. Minerealm needs something more exiting, like server-wide battles, epic builds and even greater deconstructions (like the great spawn/trade deconstruction) I believe that was the last true great event.

Maybe even start over. Create a second survival server. Many changes are needed though, including a better economic system, and server-wide events. And everyone who snatched up locations near spawn, STOP TERRAFORMING!!!! Really, the area around spawn is flat. You might as well just start off with a super flat map. Build with the land, make it more natural and in the process, more pleasing ascetically. Change creative. It is a bit of a slump, with endless half-hearted creations (a few are quite impressive, so no offence to them), pixel art and signs declaring their creators name to the world.

But the real problem is, again, the lack of people. There is one easy solution to this: Google "best minecraft server" and the first result is "Minerealm, best overall server". Advertise everywhere!

Then again, I could be all wrong. There could be a phenomenon, and thousands of newbies join in a matter of days, factions join together to create the tight-knitted community that I was introduced to (this is much better), and everyone makes a conscious effort to fix Intelli's 'new seed' wipe disaster (sorry, but the effects are still lingering in my home town, Abyssus). So really, everyone, not just the admins, please make Minerealm a more exiting place.

The server goes though relatively regular cycles of people leaving/joining/returning. Some people think it's getting stale, then either the community does something fascinating and brings them back, or they realize they were being a goon and Minerealm really IS good enough for them after all.

I hugely agree about people terraforming their land to flat grass though. I mean, it's their land, and they can do as they please with it, but they really should have the basic aesthetic sense not to make it boring flat grass and leave it that way for a year plus.

Some people just feel the current survival map is stale and more like one giant creative map.
We need to start a new challenging map, so we can, you know, try to survive!
Maybe with the next update?

I've been recently watching these youtube series

I think something like this, but a little bit less intense would be great for a new minerealm survival map. Or if too many people disagree, then as a new but seperate "hardcore survival map". Spice up the fun and challenge!
-I'd like the golden apple recipe to stay the same (so use nuggets)
-I'd like the server to disable heart regeneration from a full hunger bar, maybe only do partial regeneration. Something like this...
if HP >8 and <10 THEN heal to 10
if HP >6 and <8 THEN heal to 8
if HP >4 and <6 THEN heal to 6
if HP >2 and <4 THEN heal to 4
if HP <2 THEN heal to 2
-I'd like the /home and /spawn function to be nerfed. It is too unfair to teleport to safety with your loot. To make it more challenging you should have to walk back to safety with your loot etc. It is a big part of single player survival. However, you should still be able to use /home and /spawn, but it would kill you. So the only way to bring valuables form your mine would be to actually walk back.
-pvp should always be enabled, except... If you disable it in your realm. Or there should be a way to temporarily disable pvp for say 10 or 15 minutes by typing /pvp. But it would have a cool-down time of like 10 or 15 seconds before it worked and disabled pvp for you. So it can't be abused too much.
-also maybe disable xp orb drops from mobs from mob spawners. Make gathering xp more challenging and rewarding instead of blatant grinding after setting up an ideal trap.
-also maybe shrink the size and price of realms to 25x25 and only costing 2500cr. This way players can sooner buy a small safe zone for themselves.
-another idea would be to change the crafting recipe for torches to use one wooden log (or plank) instead of a stick. This would reduce "light pollution" and make it more challenging to light up your base. This idea is optional though, and I'm not really that for it.

I think this would make a fun and challenging experience. What do you think?

So, you want every aspect of the server changed? Good luck with that.

i was also getting bored for a while since i have been on long enough to have acquired everything i could ever need and then some...
so some friends and i have relocated to the other end of the map and are currently tearing down abandoned and griefed realms in abyssus and are planning to rebuild and bring some life back into a town that has tumble weed blowing down many of it's streets. ;)

Lmao, why trying to save a dead server? Just look for another, there are plenty of them out there.

The server is ofc loosing players. Banning innocents, destroying whole factions, (NTC, Ceteri) which are the core of minerealm, causes a lack of players. All that remains are 12 year old kids that think its the best server of the world.

Minerealm is what you make it. Players will come and go. Simples.

If you don't like Minerealm, you know you can leave, right? You don't have to keep roaming around on the forums saying how bad of a server you think Minerealm is.

Not everyone who remains are 12 years old, unless I suddenly became 5 years younger without realizing it. So what if people think this server is the best server in the world? Why does it matter to you what someone else thinks of the server?

there have been a lot of sad happenings here as of late, i will not deny that. but i have met many friends here and enjoy chatting and working together with you guys. not everyone who is left here is twelve, and for that matter i even enjoy many of the young uns here ;)
there are still lots of adults left on MR ... but if pvp is your thing, i can understand your disappointment. there are probably plenty of better places for that. that area of minerealm is the one that has been hurt the most i think.

Since I can't edit my post here, I created a new one to discuss the idea of adding a new world that would be different: http://minerealm.com/community/viewtopi ... =10&t=8372
