Are redstone obsidian farms not allowed on minerealm?
This method works in single player but not on the minerealm.
Can anyone enlighten me on why it's not working?

maybe it has something to do with how liquids react to torches on minerealm?

Or something to do with how this has been illegal for quite some time.

i havent seen anywhere on the forums that says obsidian farms are illegal. If an admin or mod could confirm that is illegal.

You need flowing water to hit idle lava to make obsidian. Flowing lava hitting idle water makes stone, and flowing water and flowing lava makes cobblestone. Just saying.
Aslo, liquids in Minerealm have been modded so they don't remove torches when they flow onto their space; they'll just go around it or be completely stopped by it. That's why if you go a good distance form spawn, you can find n00bs' torches still standing at the bottom of oceans.

theres no torches involved in this setup.

I believe it's not just torches. The water/lava behavior is an anti-griefing measure so people can't wash away torches from the borders of a realm. Redstone may be reacting the same way. Try placing a 5x5 square of redstone and put a block of water in the middle. If the water doesn't wash it away, then it's the anti-grief measures.
Also, as mentioned by Notch previously, the redstone to obsidian conversion is a bug. Exploiting it on SMP would be considered cheating.
