What I am suggesting, since some people don't seem to have been able to understand:
Have multiple stashes. If you can get your realm private with someone you trust, keep a primary stash there, but secure it as with any other situation. This deals with outsiders fairly well.
Have a stash hidden via similar means elsewhere in your realm, in case you are betrayed.
Have a stash or two of miscellaneous valuables on UNMARKED LAND, far out in the wilderness. No, the land's not yours. Yes, that's a bit dangerous, but that's why it's a dire backup. Nobody gets to know about it, but check it (or them) often, so you know when somebody moves into the area.
With all of these stashes: Keep decoys with SOMETHING in them around. Keep the really good stuff completely covered at all times, with no gaps (foils transparent texture packs). If you're really, truly paranoid, keep the very best on your person when you log out.
Yes, rule 2 states to put a sign on your property, but the point is not to make this your property, it's to have a hiding spot. Signs draw attention, which you don't want. If a mod tells me this is utterly unacceptable, I'll alter my advice, but only on this one aspect. In the mean time? Risk reduction/management.
Also, I don't really want to point-by-point refute Lightbulbs again, but if he makes more noise about it, I'll do so.
TL;DR
Hiding, it works.
Don't beg for things! Do it yourself, or it isn't worth anything!
When in doubt, lurk moar.
For the love of everything, CHECK THE DATE ON THAT LAST POST!
STEP 0: CALM DOWN! Being angry won't help you.
