Sealed rooms are not safe.

Many of you probably already know this. But i just learned it the hard way so i thought i would share with the others who may not know.

Putting a single block of a chest in a private realm does not protect it. The thief can destroy the block and get into the chest before the block reforms. This is also true of a chest inside a sealed room.

My realms community storage is in a room that can only be entered by warping in. We were just robbed. I wasnt sure how it happened at first. Until i caught Danielbeavs15 in the act while he broke the window then entered one of our boxes before the glass reformed.

I dont know if he was the one that robbed us. I saw him doing that the next day, and he claimed he was just looking. Nothing had gone missing at that point. All the valuables had already been taken the night before.

What i have done to prevent this from happening again was doubled the thickness of the walls. they would have to destroy two blocks before they can get to a chest now. If anyone knows for sure if that will work please let me know.

Just for the record (because i feel like crying a little) we lost : 40 diamonds, 9 stacks of coal, 56 ink sacks, 7 stacks of iron, 1 stack of gold, two stacks of lapis,2 or 3 stacks of wool, and some other stuff. :(

Make sure your stuff is protected by more than one block. Cheaters know this kinda stuff. Us who never try that crap can easily be unaware until learning the hard way.

Was the glass block positioned above the chest or infront of it?

Neither. The chests (there were at least two chests stolen from) were in a sealed room that could only be entered by warping. It had one-way steel door exits, but no way in. The chests were near the glass windows though. one above the window, and one below.

He/they got in by breaking the glass then clicking on the chest quickly before the block reformed.

Well Danielbeavs15 has been helping me test my new security. So hes probably not the thief.

But the new double wall does not stop it either. He can still get into my chests.

I think i will have to move my chest to an area that can not be reached from the outside. Or make the inner wall out of obsidian.

We need a better form of chest protection.

We never stated that sealed rooms were safe.

You must place a block(s) directly above the chests you want "protected".

If they can get to a box through a wall could they not just as easily destroy the block on top of the chest and get in?

He has been able to get through two blocks and into the chest before the blocks reform.

Seems like the only way to be safe is to not allow visitors. But i find that anti-social.

I've watched some of the griefing videos of a group I shouldn't even mention the name since they crave attention, but they had a hack that allowed them to freelook through the map anywhere while their player remained stationary. Of course they could place and destroy blocks and open chests without their character being in the same spot as their camera was. They were using it to light other players on fire with flint and steel while hiding in a hole far away. I dont' think it's possible to open chests at all unless the block on top is removed though.

i always kept a dirt block on top of my chests, recently they were all empty. I thought it had something to do with the roll back or bukkit update. but if people are able to get through a block on top, that would probably explain it.

Make sure the steel doors in question are such that they close when powered. Otherwise he can just plop down a redstone torch or any other source of power beside it and it will open.

first, how can you do that?

second, by sealed room, they probably mean you need to warp to get in/out without breaking blocks, as that's what what my chest room is like.
