You destroy [all] netherwart spawners in the nether. Technically these are natural blocks, just like normal spawners, or glowstone, ...

My Question: Is it a bannable offense?

Nope, and I think you mean just the netherwart. It should be bannable for people to be such leaches, but it isn't punishable at all, just try to figure out if they x-rayed, if they did then they can get banned.

Unless they mean soul sand. At least I think thats what netherwart spawns on. In which case, there's still plenty of it that I can see. Though I do believe that netherwart won't regrow from the block after its removed and there's no other netherwart nearby.

Tbh, I think I remember hearing at one time that if someone stumbles upon your wart farm, they are allowed to take your wart. That is called looting. They are also allowed to do whatever damage is necessary to get to those warts AS LONG AS they restore the damage on the way out, if they don't, it's griefing.

That's what I remember hearing at the beginning of the update for post-release, make sure with staff first, though.

Netherwarts only grow on soul sand, and they only appear in the Nether, in strongholds, on soul sand. If you find any of it anywhere you can take it. Looting in the nether is permitted. Griefing is never allowed though, so if you notice that a tunnel is dug straight to your netherwart farm - call a mod or admin ASAP.

Aside from the issue of digging straight towards a netherwart farm (which might suggest xraying), is it acceptable to take the soul sand that the wart was growing on? This seems to be a fine line between looting (taking the soul sand to make your own netherwart farm elsewhere) and griefing (removing the soul sand only to prevent others from farming the wart).

You cannot take the soul sand. that would be like "raiding" the netherrack or cobblestone from someones fortress. It's common enough that if you break it, it can safely be assumed your either the laziest minecrafter alive, or breaking blocks for the sake of breaking them.

Yeah I see no need to take the soul sand that the netherwart was sitting on. Why not get a ton of it from all over the Nether? Do you really want to make the person you stole from suffer THAT much?
