Countries

Hey everyone,

This here is the official poll regarding countries!
Since we implemented it as a surprise (;)), we thought we would give you guys a chance to give your official opinion.

First off, I'll say that some posts made by players stating that countries place unwanted MOTD messages on your realms, etc, are entirely inaccurate.

Country MOTD's, and more, are strictly confined to the /country command. We've done our best to ensure the system stays separate, for players who don't want to get involved.

--

So yea, vote, discuss, and posts suggestions for how you would like to see the system changed.

Thanks!

Edit: Also, if you dislike countries, please post a valid reason. So far, I have not yet seen a single valid reason, as you don't have to participate in them if you don't want to.

Too soon for me for a thumbs up/down.
One thing I would like to see changed:
You shouldn't have to pay a fee to /sethome in a realm you own, regardless of what country it is a part of.

Given this bit here, I would say that it is far too early for anyone to be able to claim that they either like or hate countries simply because we don't even know how they work yet. Perhaps in a few weeks, after we have been dealing with them it will be different, but right now most people probably have not even seen a country. We won't really know how well they are working till they have covered a majority of the cites and come into conflict with each other, right now they just seem to be wildly expanding across empty public realms.

I hate the idea of attacking other countries. This gives people even MORE reason to fight with one another. Don't we already have enough fighting in the Nether? I honestly don't think we need any more countries/factions/groups, let alone another mod of sorts further altering vanilla Minecraft on this server.

EDIT: If NTC gets any more of an opportunity, we're all going to be their subjects. Seriously, they will MESS US UP with this whole 'countries' thing going on.

To me countries are just a way for super rich factions/players to collectively flex their e-p....muscles.

Now, forgive my frankness in that statement, its not meant to be as damning as it would seem. I'm not entirely against the country system, it just seems fairly pointless. Sure the big names can stretch their roots farther into the system, spreading their name and impending their will on taxes (still not exactly 100% sure how that works, but i digress). But really how does it benefit the rest of the population? And yes I get how it is exactly like Risk, how it is intended for competition, and how its meant to just be FUN. It just doesn't seem fun at all. I'm not seeking to start a country, I just don't really care to. For me the collection of realms I have acquired and named are my "country", why would I want to pay more credits just to make them "more mine"?

No one "owns" a country. We'll be adding an election system in the future.
Realms are owned by the players - not by countries.

I clicked like it because I think it will be a good way to keep older players and larger factions busy, as well as take large amounts of credits out of the economy, perhaps even forcing some of the factions to sell of some of their stocks etc.

I only have 2 complains about the system:
a)
The Country join fee, perhaps only charge that if you are trying to sethome on a realm that isn't your own or scrap it completely

b)
There is no real way for a single person to defend oneself. I don't want to make a country but I don't like the idea of being so easily taken over so perhaps a way to buy units without being a country would be nice. Perhaps 2-10 credits per unit without the option to attack or invade anything, pure defensive units. Could even enhance it to be able to start a rebellion etc. So the countries have to look out that they treat their people right, otherwise they will buy some soldiers and kill of the units in their realm and become independent again.
Edit: Just read through the instructions again to verify what I just said, is the /realm fortify commands only usable for countries or everyone .. though only for countries, but it is a realm command.

Other then that the rules sound nice and well thought out, offering some things to do and some benefits without forcing everyone to participate to a degree that would be a pain to them.

No no I understand that, Its just having the name of someone else over mine seems to cheapen the work put into the realm. I know this may seem silly, its purely subjective on my part, its just how it comes across to me.

On a more forward thinking note, an election system does indeed sound interesting.

I'm an independent player and I don't yet have the credits to participate in the country system, but I voted "like" since I think most parts of it sound like fun. And the decrease in base tax rate is a nice touch too ;)

I want to decide what happens to my realm. A tax for members of my realms, set by NTC people?
Without a way to exclude my realm from this system, i can only say "no"!
