Does Redstone ORE cause lag?

Simple question for someone who knows enough about running a server to be able to actually answer it:
Does redstone ore blocks cause lag?
Say for example if you filled a 50x50 floor of it and it then flashed on/off when you walked on it (because that is the simple nature of the block).

Well, it rapidly turns on and off, and with tons in one place, it could possibly generate lag.

It's a loop that causes lag, when a redstone torch flickers on and off causing a movement in a circuit ( normally designed for timing) (effects) EG: a flashing christmas tree.
If you design a circuit (average size) that doesn't require timing eg:
A password protected door, a auto harvest button the server wouldn't lag at all but to design a loop uses the same equipment to build any none looping circuit.
I hope intelli finds a way to make it so you have to pay for a loop.
This would be hard and i understand why he's blocked it.
EDIT: also, spamming a button would cause lag/ a switch. but that would stop when you stop so it's not constant lag.
