Lack of spawning of passive mobs

I think there is a significant amount of passive mobs NOT spawning. And I think this is due to everyone breeding a bunch of animals. I have about 6 cows and 14 chickens in my realm, but I'm looking for 2 pigs and 2 sheep to breed as well. I can't find any. Before the 4.0 update, I could find a lot more passive mobs around.
I searched around my realms in about a 400 radius circle and found a few cows but that's it. Is this because of the mass amount of animals everyone's been breeding? I don't think any more passive mobs spawn once there's a certain number loaded into memory. Does this apply to the entire server or just to a single player?

My experience has been quite the opposite. i have been finding tons of cows, chickens and sheep. i have even found a few dozen pigs. before the update it was a rarity for me to find an animal. So far i haven't been breeding, as i have animals aplenty...

The server op has stated many times in the past that this server places no limits on mob spawning. Perhaps you should take into account that the full version of minecraft only spawns passive mobs upon chunk generation.

That's dumb. Animals spawn in ONLY new generated chunks?? Well, hell, all the chunks have already been generated!! The map's finite. All animals are killed = no more animals.
I've also had trouble with getting enough sapling drops to replant, and chickens laying eggs. Is there any correlation? Maybe it's my computer or connection.

Maybe chunk loading?
Because I walked from the border towards x:0 and z:0 and I've found so many pigs, cows, chickens, sheeps as well as hostile mobs.

This guy hasn't bothered to actually leave his realm and travel the wilderness...

That's what I'm thinking.
I always see so many mobs. Passive and hostile.
It's a bit annoying actually.

Okay, I have found mobs. I found a group of pigs about 1500 blocks from spawn (about 2000 blocks from my realm). I occasionally find sheep. And I have successfully found two sheep around my realm to breed. But I'm still looking for some pigs near my realm and the rare brown sheep.
I guess I just have to keep looking. The thing is, the wiki says passive mobs spawn in "newly generated chunks." That sounds as if no more passive mobs will spawn on the map. The only source of chickens, cows, pigs, or sheep will come from breeding. Hopefully that's not the case.

Yes, the idea is to obtain eggs to craft cake and then sell the cake. And if I can manage to get these stubborn chickens to lay some eggs, I will gladly supply you with cake for your b-day party.
If I don't get a chance to say it on your b-day, I'm saying it now. Happy birthday hippo.
