Capture the hill --- New game mode

Hey guys, i been thinking of a new game mode to play. Basically it would be two teams, probably around 3vs3 or maybe 4vs4, and there an attacking and defending side. Everyone decides on a specific area, and the defenders are giving half an hour or fifteen minutes, depending on your rate of build to build up any defences they want. The attackers then have to get past their defences and place a flag on a specific point. You would then switch sides and the attackers then begin to be defenders, moving to another spot. Players can basically do any strategy, they could use lava as a moat, or build out of cobble, to try to slow down attackers with out picks. No armour would be used thus to not waste and to make a fair fight. Furthermore, players could then decide whether or not you have specific weapons. eg. stone swords, iron swords. There could be a time limit or a certain number of lives. So if your interested, i already have a couple of mates interested in and if you are too, just reply to this and i try to get you in as soon as possible.

So from the start of the game:

Defenders build defenses. Attackers begin attacking (makes the defender's job very intense xD). After 15 minutes the attackers are allowed to capture the flag. If the defenders can hold it for x amount of time, they win. Otherwise, attackers win.


This sounds like it has some potential. You would have to implement some balancing to counteract defenders placing their flag at the top of a max height cobble tower, etc. Also a problem would be the length of the game. LBG and Spleef are successful and part of the reason is that they are both short enough to keep the attention of an audience.

Good start though, definitely has potential.

i love this idea. an arena would have to be set up for it, and each team will need to be given a certain amount of items to make it fair (ie: if people stack up on obsidian for that occaision). i think they would use those items in whatever way they please, in order to make the best defence possible.

or, with the items, the teams could choose from a certain amount of materials (like 500), then choose what kind of mats they would be (excluding obsidian)

Thanks guys for the responses, i will take into account what you have said and i agree on the time limit, as well as the materials. I will try to get back to you guys at a time of when we could play.

In this thread I have seen many different ideas of what this is about. I am going to try to make a few different ideas of how this could work. (?) means that I don't have a definite opinion about that part.

Constants:
-Flag (a block of red (?) wool)
-2 teams. (attackers and defenders for some game modes)
-Stone swords for everyone (so no one is overpowered)
-no armor for everyone
-number of blocks for defenders (or both teams) (maybe 5 stacks (?))
-Defenders (or both teams) start in a circular (?) arena (size?).
-After they have entered, anyone who leaves the arena is disqualified (maybe lava moat?)
-If everyone on one team dies, that team loses.
-To prevent camping, teams must stay 4 blocks away from the flags.

Game mode 1 (PvP on):
Defenders have 3 (?) minutes to make defenses for a flag in the center of an arena on the ground (flag cannot be moved). After that, attackers try to destroy it in the same amount of time (?).

Game mode 2 (PvP optional):
For the first 3 (?) minutes, defenders can hide the flag in whatever they create. After that, attackers try to destroy it in the same amount of time (? or a little more).

Game mode 3 (PvP on):
Defenders have 1 minute to place flags. Everyone on the team has 1. After this the defenders enter, each person with 1 different colored wool block (flag). They have 3 (?) minutes to destroy the defenders' flags and place their own. Defenders cannot (not allowed to) destroy the attackers' flags. The team with the most number of flags at the end wins.

Game mode 4 (PvP on):
Both teams start in the arena. Two different colored flags are at the ends. The teams have 3 minutes to prepare defenses (they are not allowed to cross a center line), then they try to break the opponents' flag.

These are just ideas, please say which you like and which you would like to change. Also, feel free to add more game modes that you prefer.

Hey, you have some good ideas. i agree with most of you ideas, especially the varied game numbers, eg. 1vs1, or 2vs2 it gives it more variation. So if you wanna get together some time and try it out, i am up for it.
