Is Turning Redstone Dust into Obsidian Allowed?

If you're not a moderator or admin that personally know's Intelli's feelings about this subject please refrain from answering this question unless you can link me to a thread where this question was previously brought up and answered.
Just wondering if this is considered a glitch by Intelli before I go about mass producing obsidian this way. This trick has been around for a while and it doesn't seem like Notch intends to remove it anytime soon. So, to me it seems like something that should be allowed, but I figured it would be a good idea to check here first since I know how Intelli despises the use of glitches and I would rather not be unable to continue playing on this server.

I am going to ignore your request and post this tidbit I found on the Minecraft wiki instead.
"Redstone is also useful for making an obsidian generator. This is a bug that will likely be patched in a later update"
Considering that obtaining mossy cracked brick via a glitch was deemed illegal by Intelli, it is somewhat logical to assume that exploiting a bug in the system to obtain vast quantities of an otherwise hard to get item would be illegal as well.
This assumption is backed by the "disconnect" fall bug, which is considered illegal as well, even though it has been around literally forever.
The final descision is, of course, Intelli's.

It is obviously an exploit. Flowing lava should not turn into a still lava block simply because it falls onto redstone dust. There were similar cases some time ago where redstone dust would randomly convert into buckets or blocks of different kinds of ore. In that case producing items via redstone dust conversion was not allowed, so it follows to reason that it would not currently be allowed to transform redstone dust into obsidian.
It is clearly an exploit since it is not functioning as intended, and per the signs at spawn exploits are not allowed.

I think this doesn't work in multiplayer, as we tried this on our bukkit server a while ago.
So your question is moot.

It's worked since it was found in April.

wait, the mossy stone glitch is illegal? I wouldn't really see why, since its really just an aesthetic thing. They still register as stone bricks in your inventory, and retain the same properties, as far as I know. I don't think that should be deemed illegal.. we don't have a whole lot of decor options when it comes to blocks used in constructing buildings.

It is a glitch. Using it is exploiting. Exploiting is illegal.
BTW Nice Avatar Saves. Is that picture from Dissidia? I honestly hate using Kefka but all in all he is really cool. My favourite is Cloud.

It ruins the economy. These kinds of blocks are only interesting to use because there aren't loads of them around, that's what makes people like certain blocks.
If you were to make cobblestone as rare as glowstone you'd suddenly see people using it as a building material much more.
