Sheep regrowing wool

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I did a quick search and didn't see any posts pertaining to what I'm asking about. I've noticed that around my realms the sheep don't regrow any of their wool. They also don't seem to despawn, so I've got about 15 sheep roaming around my area and the only way to get some wool is to kill them all and hope new sheep spawn. The lag doesn't make killing them terribly simple, either, but I know that goes along with the amount of people on the server. This has been over a few days, so it's not like I'm impatiently sitting here posting after a few minutes. I recently came back to the server after a few months off and noticed this.

Sheep don't regrow wool in 1.8, as far as I know.

Sheep haven't regrown wool since the very early stages of Minecraft. And yes, killing them with the current playercount is quite slow. Finding mobs at this point is also difficult. So it's honestly better to not worry about the need for wool and just obtain the wool as the sheep become "available." Sitting around and waiting for them to respawn is a waste of time right now.

Wool doesn't regrow in 1.8 but apparently it's a planned feature:

Though I'd take that with a grain of salt, since implementation of that idea was supposed to happen "soon" when it was announced back in June...

Thanks. I guess when I'm playing in single player they've just been despawning/spawning quick enough for me to not notice the lack of regrowth. Shame, what a waste of all the dye I have, there's no way I'm going to waste it all dying one piece of wool at a time. I guess I'll have to just keep up my wool/sheep expeditions.
