Question Regarding Spawning

Hey! I did a quick search using a few different strings and didn't see anything obvious. My apologies for possibly double-posting.
My friends and I were wondering if there is a plan (near future) to return spawning to normal (vanilla) levels?
Were going to need to know this ASAP as we've put a few days work into our construction project and will be putting things on hold until we have an answer on this. We like the challenge!

The map will most likely be wiped before Nov. 11th due to 1.8, so yes, there is a high chance the server will be wiped.

I am confused. OP asked about spawning level, which I assume means he is talking about mob spawn rates. The two posts responding to him are talking about map wipes.
To answer OP's question, current mob spawn rates ARE at vanilla levels. In vanilla minecraft there is a cap on the number of mobs on the server at any one time(something like 200) so with the high player count, each player only gets 1-2 mobs. Considering the number of underground caverns, the odds are good of your one of two mobs spawning deep underground and you never seeing them.

To add to what cerevex stated, the spawn limit only applies to the active chunks on the server. A server can greatly exceed the spawn limit if players activate chunks that already have spawns in them. This leads to both a low spawn rate and extreme mob lag during peak hours.

There is something deeply wrong with spawning on this server. I've called 3 servers my home (this is one of those) but I've been on countless servers. Other players agree on your server, with me, that the spawn rate is all wrong.
I created an underground animal farm. Fairly simple... grass floor in a 30x30 with torches. Light+grass = animals. I can safely say, after 24 hours that not a single animal has spawned. Day or night. Not a single animal has spawn.
My friend and I have found huge caverns. Not a single monster has spawned and that's 2 players. We came across a dungeon with a zombie spawner. I dug around the room to setup a good strategy. When I opened the dungeon room up, it had 2 zombies... 2... zombies.
Obviously, the spawn rate has been pulled back to reduce lag. This is NOT vanilla spawn rates and to say these spawn rates are "Normal" is to either be willfully ignorant, in denial, or just plain full of it.

Spawn rates are the same but with so many players the monsters are spread out a lot.

The spawn rates have not been modified at all. If you have an issue with the spawn rates, pester Notch.
