How should 1.17 been implemented

Hi,

I was wondering how the old map could be part of a new 1.17 world? The easiest idea would probably be a 50 block wall around the existing world (so badrock would be at level 0 to 5) and then continue with the new (higher) plots behind the wall. This way we could build highrise building within the existing world. What do you think?

Hello, this is a fantastic idea, however there are some parts of gameplay and world generation that would foil it. For example, the way that chunks are loaded would create an odd border that would be very suboptimal to build around. Furthermore, This wall may be exploited in order to create "Void Bases", where the player builds their base in the old void, without dying (since the new void will be lowered so venturing into the lower caves won't cause instantaneous death). Finally, we haven't yet seen how Mojang is going to tackle the exact same problem, the best approach for now would just to be to wait for them to eventually figure something out, and then (hopefully) forget about the main problem that the 1.17 update poses.
